223 Primers

My LGS sells all primers for $37.95/1000 and then I get 10% off as retired DoD. That makes the standard primers expensive but puts the 41's and 34's at a reasonable price. I just need to break down and buy a bunch at one time from Wideners when they go on sale.

http://ammunitionstore.com has Wolf Small Rifle Magnum Primers for $90 per 5000. Works out to be about $130 to ship 5k after shipping and hazmat.

I believe Wolf and Tula primers are made in the same factory in Murom, Russia.

Ever wonder which primers Winchester uses in their 223 ammunition? I would imagine their srp primers, but I have no idea.

Winchester makes a mil spec primer but does not offer it to the public. What they put on commercial ammunition is their decision and is subject to change based on what primer gives them the most profit.

My LG has CCI primers on sale Small or large Pistol & Rifle $29.99 Reg. $34.99
Military #41 5.56 rifle $39.99 Reg. $42.99 not a bad price I will be stocking up tomorrow.

I have been useing the Tula ".223" primers. Small Rifle Mag.
No probles so far and I have used 2000+.
Less expensive than CCI.

OK - thanks for all the replies.

Looks like I'll try some CCI 450s.
Have to re-work the load.
Then I'll have to go shoot some more.
Dang!

For what it is worth, during the first component scare, I got several thousand Fiocchi small rifle primers, and I have used them ever since, never a slam fire in an AR.

Just use Winchester small rifle primers. I actually exclusively use Winchester primers. Never had any problems.

FWIW, I have used most of them, Wolf 223, CCI-400, 450, BR-4, Fed 205, WSM, RP 7 1/2. Never a problem with any of them, but the majority were fired in bolt actions. My first choice is RP 7 1/2, followed by Wolf 223, then any of the others. Grabbed 5000 of the Wolf's for $15.50 per 1000 on sale a couple years ago, still using up the others before I break it open. Haven't tried the CCI military, never saw a need to. Have fired a couple thousand through a few AR's, no problems.
