What aspects of shooting do NOT interest you?

Anything to do with cowboy shooting other than the history of the guns.
lever guns
black power guns
people who like to tell us how awful plastic guns are - they're not
reloading - I like shooting, not fiddling in a shop doing tedious work where I might blow myself up ;)
competitions that try to emulate actual combat situations - practicing for such things is one thing - doing it to prove you're better at it than someone else doesn't appeal to me
hearing how bench rest shooting is a joke - it isn't - it's not real world shooting but it has a valuable purpose which is improving accuracy which works it's way down to all firearms
oddball calibers - like we don't have enough already - did we really need a .41 magnum?
hearing how guns were much better in "the good old days" - some were - most weren't
people who get to shoot long distances because I don't get to ;)

After stewing on this for a while, the things that totally disinterest me are the AR15s, 1911s, and glock that everybody has 2 of and isn't any better than the next one. If it's truly an advancement in the platform then awesome, but run of the mill stuff is boring. Show me old school, critters I can chase in places I can get to, or at least dream about. I don't care about somebody getting permission from the government to kill some nuisance critter that is otherwise protected...whatever. likewise I don't give a rip about a caged whitetail getting plugged when it steps out of the feed barn in the morning. With guns another pet peeve of mine is a person going on and on about model ABC which can be had for a mere 5 figures...that's a truck, a house, maybe a gun collection, but not A SINGLE gun.

To put it short, I skip stuff that is not realistically attainable, or achievable.

Coatings instead of finishes, camo, and sand colors
Anything that uses as much polymer as possible
Striker fired pistols...got a few of them, but they all just kind of blur together after a point
The newest AR derivative from whatever new company, piston AR's, pistol AR's and AK's
Double stack 1911's, unending 1911 clones
Antique European pocket pistols, mostly .25's and .32's
Most shotguns
Anything "tactical", "zombie", or "call of duty" related
Revolvers with locks
Trophy hunts that are just a check-mark on a list.

Yes yes we did.

Why? I realize the .41 mag came first but they are very close to a 10MM. I guess my point is that there are several calibers in that range that aren't a whole lot different from each other with the .40S&W, the 10mm and the .41 magnum. The .357 isn't all that much different and yes I know the .41 magnum is more powerful than any of the other calibers mentioned here. My point is still that there are a lot of calibers that are close to each other. I understand that there are wheel gun calibers and pistol calibers. But it is possible to make a .41 mag pistol for example.

At any rate it's still my choice for something that doesn't interest me. I just don't get into the hair splitting nature of all the different calibers.

No interest in competitions or shooting games.
Anything made out of Zamak or it's equivalent.
Modern muzzleloading designs.
Wildcat cartridges.

22rimfire although I have 20,000 rounds I acquired over a few years for 1/4 the cost it is now ,b4 Barry got in. Im disgusted with the price gouging. Also one of my favorite bullet suppliers bumped their 223 bullets 10 bucks a 1000 when this current frenzy started.:fire::banghead::fire::banghead::fire:

Generally I only read gun rags if I am sitting in my treestand and there isn't any action. My first flip through the magazine I will only read things that interest me such as hunting stories, new rifles & handguns and reviews (which I know are mainly advertisements but I'm bored so give me a break). My second flip through the magazine I'll read most of the articles I passed over, like tactical accessories and training (which I generally don't care about but by this time I am desperately bored and would probably read my wife's People magazine if it was in front of me). The articles I always pass over are about the newest "tactical defense super round." You know the ones, the bullet goes around corners, brews you a batch of beer, scratches your dog's belly, does your kid's homework and then kills the bad guy with zero over-penetration.

This is often repeated, but isn't true. The .41 Magnum can be loaded much hotter than 10mm.

Example: Buffalo Bore 220 grain 10mm has a published velocity of 1200 FPS. Buffalo Bore 230 grain .41 Magnum has a published velocity of 1450 FPS. Buffalo Bore 265 grain .41 Magnum has a published velocity of 1350 FPS.

While I don't currently own any 41s, I respect the cartridge.

Modern muzzleloaders
So called Black Rifles

I'm old school and like blue steel and wood.

With that said for those who do, go for it, fine with me. You get my support, just not interested.

I tend to skip over anything that is tactical or combat.

My preference is the old stuff and the unique, you see why I've let most of my magazine sucriptions run out.

Gadgets on ARs.
Black powder.
.40 S&W, .44 magnum, .50 magnum, etc. I like to be able to use my old hands after I leave the range.
Hi-Point anything.
Uber expensive guns (H&K, Custom 1911s, etc.) I prefer a variety of $500-1,000 guns vs a few $2K-$5K guns.

It depends on the definition of "much" but when you talk about loading that hot you're getting into .44 Special range too not to mention the non- magnum .44 round. The ballistics are very similar.

My point is that there is a lot of overlap between calibers at that level. Sure you can get a gun that shoots a particular level on the low end up to a particular level on the upper end but the thing is there are other guns that overlap on both ends. The .44 Special in particular is very similar to the .41 magnum.

I think the problem with 41 mag is that the benefit of having it in a small revolver has never been executed well. It was chambered in N frame guns, and if I'm going that large, I'd just get a 44. I would love to see a K frame sized 41 mag, but doubt it would happen.

Anyway, lets stop hijacking the thread.

Articles about "tactical this and tactical that" are totally uninteresting to me. In fact the word tactical irritates me.

Tactical reload = reloading fast
Tactical retreat = A plan to get the hell out of Dodge if things go wrong.

And my favorites are tactical clothing.

Tactical shirt! = That means a shirt with a gun pocket.
Tactical pants! = Your pants require tactics?
Oh yeah, Tactical Pen = ???????? Are we talking Jason Bourne pen fights here? Really?

AR's, 1911's, pretty much any semi-auto hand gun. I've always gravitated away from anything popular/mainstream. I like weird guns, weird cars, weird bikes, etc.

I don't mind articles on defensive shooting, but I'm more interested in articles that have an unusual take on the topic. For instance, an article on how to best use a non-"tactical" firearm in a defensive situation is far more interesting to me than the billionth article on using an AR for defense.

Also, any publication, online or print, lives or dies by ad revenue. To survive, they pretty much have to write on topics that appeal to the majority of the market (and black tactical stuff is just oh so popular right now) and also never write a bad review of a product.

Any all AK style stuff turns me off, have shot them just don't like them, also most of the Uber tactical stuff leaves me bored, and finally the never ending "best" caliber for whatever.

The invariable plethora of shooters who have no respect for the dangers their lack of courtesy and attention to detail causes to themselves, and fellow shooters on the range.

Some are simply ignorant and nearly always they simlpy need someone to explain/mentor them. But there's that inevitable contingent of arrogant individuals on both ends of the spectrum. from the cliche "back woods redneck" to the "grumpy old timer" both of those groups make shooting no fun, and give the largesse the negative perception.

the other group that really makes things frustrating - is the fanboy haters. whichever camp their in. The Trolls - pure and simple.

re: what aspects ...

Let's see, hmmmmmmmmm, as the list suggests:

Phrased differently, what articles in a gun rag will you skip over to get to the “good stuff”?

For me, the following have little attraction:

Semi-auto rifles, after 3 years in SouthEast Asia, have no place in my armory.

"Modern style muzzleloaders and their associated sabot loaded projectiles."
After owning a true roman-nose-stocked Pennsylvania Rifle, I can see why Pyrodex might work. However, one 'F-Troop cannon' episode in reality, was quite enough, thank you.

<<Any cartridge that ends in “Short Magnum”.>>
Also any cartridge labeled 'plus p', as well.

"Plastic or rubber tipped bullets (both handgun and rifle)."
As one who has a metallurgical background, designing a metal opject 'to suffer an integrity failure', and then after 'in the field tests', find that that piece of metal failed to fail as designed, I can see the insert being placed in the cavity. Revolver bullets do use this improvement, and do 'fail as advertised'. Rifle, i know naught, so i say, naught.

<<Safetyless poly/striker pistols.>>

I prefer old school external hammer, frame mounted safety mechanisms, that provide Condition 1 carry, for pistols. I do much rather choose revolvers.
