Nobody should have known you were carrying . . .

I've had two instances in which I know that I was "made" as a concealed carrier.

The fact that I carry is no big secret at work. I cannot carry at work, but everyone knows that I carry when I'm not at work. That has not always been the case, though. Back before the cat got out of the bag (I eventually quit caring who at our office knew), I walked into my office and took off my jacket. Ordinarily, I would just walk in, put my holster in my desk, and get to work. What I didn't know was that another attorney in the office had turned the corner and was standing in my doorway. The conversation went like this:
Her: What's that?
Me: (knowing I was busted) Oh, um. My holster.
Her: For . . .?
Me: My gun.

I didn't see any reason to lie about why I had a gun-shaped holster hanging from my belt . . .

That was about 2-3 years ago. I got busted again over the weekend. The family and I wen to IHOP on Saturday morning to get some breakfast. I carried my G19 in a CBST holster under an untucked button-down shirt. After eating and paying the bill, we got up to leave. I asked my wife for my jacket, which had been on the bench next to her, and she said, "People behind you are staring." That's when I realized that my shirt had ridden up, exposing my pistol to about 40 people behind me. I pulled my shirt down and turned to look. From what I can tell, only one table noticed, but as soon as I turned, all eyes went straight back to the table.

What about you? Do you have any tales in which you know you've been spotted in spite of concealed carrying?

I'm a legal and lawfully licenced concieled carry permit holder and as such I could care less if spotted. I don't flaunt it by no means. I carry a fanny pack in the summer:D

Happens more frequently than I like admit. And I consider myself very circumspect.

I was at a supermarket some years ago and needed to pick up a squealing misbehaving toddler to put him in the shopping cart. He lifted up my shirt and my carry piece was out there for all to see. The guy behind the meat counter blurted out "now that's what I'm talkin' 'bout!" I was more mortified about my big belly being exposed ... hmmm ... in retrospect, I'm not sure whether the meat guy was exclaiming over my Sig p228 or my paunch. Oh never mind...

Personally I wouldn't care if they noticed my gun or not. That being said, I have been seen printing in public. I don't carry at work, not because I am not allowed, but because it would be extremely hard on my carry gun with all the dirt and gravel and mud I work in.

I like very loose fitting clothing. I carry a Kel Tec .380 in a Desantis in pocket holster. Never been made as far as I know.

Never was 'made' when working. Always had it iwb under a t and shirt. As I
was response to emergencies 24/7, company knew I carried. Fact, I had it in writing that I was authorized....put in my personnel file.....just a cma. Never had it out of leather in 25 years.

;)

I've also been a CCW holder ever sense Colorado had one.....before that, just kept a low profile!

Back in the 70s when I had my own auto repair shop while working under a car dash my s&w m-39 mag popped out without me knowing. The customer called after he found it to see if it was mine. Good thing I didn't have to use it. The m-39 has a mag disconnect safety.

Nope never been made. I live in a open carry state though so I'm not too worried if it happens.

That being said, I'm really careful about concealing.

I was at Wal Mart the other day when I reached up to get something off of the shelf and my jacket pulled my shirt up. My XD was very visible to a man standing right behind me and he most certainly saw it. I smiled and nodded and went on my way. He smiled nodded and went on his way.

I have told this story at least once on here, but it's funny as all get out.

My wife and I were still dating and we were at a craft store (Michaels I think) and it was one of those photo - finish scenarios of finding the restroom on time. I got in, and as I dropped my pants my revolver came bouncing out of its IWB holster and across the floor into the adjacent stall. I was all alone at this point, and the photo finish scenario is getting ever so much closer to me losing the battle. So I do what any person in such dire circumstances would do, I grab the crotch of my pants and underwear, pull them up enough to waddle "exposed" the 2 ft from stall door to stall door and regain control of my AWOL weapon, then immediately complete my mission. As I pick the gun up with my left hand, and am holding my pants with my right hand, buttocks bare and flapping in the gentle breeze provided by the noisiest fartfan ever created, I hear chuckling. Apparently this poor young lady (teen) had slipped into the restroom unannounced to clean it and witnessed the show. She couldn't contain herself from laughter but she did manage a chuckling indication of some form of apology as she quickly escaped the restroom. By now, the initial mission is about to fail, and I do manage to take care of business. I reholster, resecure, and attempt to compose myself as I go to exit the restroom. When I finally open the door I see the poor soul sitting on a bench next to the restroom across the narrow hallway next to the MEN'S restroom with a cleaning cart pushed to the side. She is still giggly as is the rest of the crew at the store who are giving odd looks and laughing like crazy as I make my way around the store, collect my girlfriend and excuse myself to the car.

I have been CCW for over 20 years. I am perfectly legal, I don't care one bit if someone catches a glimpse of my gun.

WestKentucky, you have by far one of the best stories I have ever read on this forum. Thank you for the laughter.

I live in Illinois and carry legally, I don't really care if I'm seen, and I think no one really notices around here unless they're gun people too.

As far as I know, I’ve never been “Made” other than by my daughter. When I first got my CCW about 7 years ago, when I would go to my daughter’s house I would get a hug and a “Just checking” pat on the hip. Now days I just get the hug ‘cause she already knows.

The only time I KNOW I got made was at a fitting for a Tux before my step-son's wedding. The young lady reached around me with a tape measure, hit the 1911 on my belt and said, "What in the world...Oh...well, we'll just allow a little more for that." and went on with her job. I told her don't worry about the gun, the wedding was in Green Bay and I wouldn't be able to carry up there anyway.

I don't really care if anyone knows or not. I don't run around banging a drum, but I don't make any real effort to hide it either.

Wait...take that back. I was slipping past the pastor on the pew one Sunday morning. As I went past he asked, "Wayne...are you carrying a gun?" I said, "Sure I am. I always do." He never said anything more about it.

I've never caught myself exposed, and if I've ever been made, it's never been brought to my attention.

If it ever happened, likely I was taken for an off-duty LEO, as I still frequently get mistaken for one for other reasons, despite the fact it's been 20+ years since I last jockeyed a patrol car. The area in which I live is attractive to LEO's from three counties due to its affordable living environment.

I have a CHL and live in an open carry state. As long as I carry within the law, who cares?

Unless people are staring, how would I know all of the times that I had 'been made'?
Again, who cares?

I couldn't care less, one way or the other. Most people are self-absorbed and clueless anyway.

I've only been "made" two times that I'm aware of. The first time I was walking into the house and my energetic grandson of about 4 came full bore across the living room to hug grandpa. Before I could turn to face him full on he plowed fore head first into my side with a "thunk". He kind of staggered back a step or two with a "what the..." look on his face, and rubbed his fore head before finishing the hug. :)
The second time we were at the orchard with the family and I put my grand daughter up on my shoulders to get "that one waay up there". My shirt and jacket pulled up and caught above my pistol and my daughter told me, after setting my granddaughter down, I was showing.

Most people are self-absorbed and clueless anyway.

You know that really is the thing. Most people aren't looking for a gun, so unless you have a major wardrobe malfunction, or some sort of biological malfunction that leads to a wardrobe malfunction, (WestKentucky, I'm looking in your direction....;)) if you print a bit or the gun gets partially exposed, most people won't see it.

It seems most people go through life with their eyes down trying their hardest not to make eye contact. If you really want to throw people off nowadays, just go to a Target or Wal-Mart store, and whistle a song quietly as you shop. People look at you like you're insane.

It is kind of funny though. There are certain tells I see with some carriers though. If you ever watch someone who's eyes keep scanning all the time, or someone who goes a tad ridged when someone walks behind them, look for a printing gun. I've seen it numerous times. You can often tell who functions with situational awareness and who doesn't.

It always cracks me up a bit when I see a guy walking around in a t-shirt and large un-tucked button up shirt in 90+ degree weather. It's a dead give away to me he is carrying. But there's nothing wrong with that. It just makes me laugh.

Last year I started this thread about stupid carry mistakes. Some of the stories are about being made. If anyone cares to revive it, be my guest.

I've seen people walk through the grocery store with one IWB and the other on a dropleg...
actually nobody stared, and certainly nobody cared that the hot chick with a nice rack was strapped in a grocery store,
pushing the buggy with a toddler
most didn't notice, some did, but then, that's a large part of why I live where I live

More people checking her out, than bothering to look for the second gun.

Although I live in a very gun friendly state, where both open carry and CCW are legal without a license, I still make every effort to ensure my firearm is concealed in public. All it takes is for one excited person to call 911 and report a "Man with a gun!" The fact that the citizen called is enough to cause LE to respond. I much prefer to avoid the commotion....ymmv

Never been made. If you're one of those cool tactical guys (not me) it's considered a disadvantage for an evil doer to know who's armed in advance.

Personally, I just try to treat others as I would like to be treated, and respect their beliefs - even if I personally don't agree with them. I don't want to make anyone uncomfortable for no good reason.
