I am a big guy and have pockets that I don't have problems inserting a weapon. My 2 CCW are XDs 45 and LCR. 357 which I keep loaded with 38+p the 2" barrel even with 110gr hurts. I am looking at the LCR in 9mm will shoot +p as I do in my XDM. There is a question somewhere , here it is 9mm+p. Or 38sp +p? My night table gun is XDM with 9+p 20 rounds. Be sure to knock or call ahead.

I don't think the LCR chambered for 9mm does anything the 357 mag doesn't.

The guns are dimensionally the same and the 9 weighs slightly more.

Add to it that some 9mm bullets tend to come out of their cases under the recoil of the little revolver and I can't see why you would add a 9mm LCR if you already have a 357.

Can you give an example of 9mm ammo that does this in the LCR?

First time I've heard of it.

I'm pretty sure 9mm+P is going to be about as painful to shoot as 38Spl+P out of an LCR.
If I'm wrong, I'm sure someone will be along soon to correct me.
You might see if any nearby range has one to rent so you can try it out.

Anyway, as I see it, you have 3 options;
Load your LCR with standard pressure 38Spl.
Trade your LCR for a heavier (steel framed) snubbie that will help tame the recoil of +P.
Or, give up on carrying a snubbie.

The OP said .357 hurts. That's why he asked about the nine, or am I reading it wrong? I would much prefer the nine due to energy. Another option would be the new 3" LCR, unless that's too large for the way you carry.

It sounds to me shortbarrel that the OP keeps his LCR loaded with 38+p ammo and it is uncomfortable to shoot.

If shooting 38+p is painful, I'd recommend sticking to standard pressure 38's, not buying one in 9mm. The 9mm is going to be just as or more uncomfortable to shoot as the 38+p ammo is.

I'm a bigger guy too, and have fair sized hands. I used to carry a Jframe, but I hated shooting it because it beat my hand up terribly. The problem wasn't the recoil, it was that the grip was way too small for my hand. I got rid of it and switched to an XDs in 45, and am much happier. You may be better off just sticking with your XDs and getting rid of the LCR, or perhaps finding a heavier small frame revolver like a 2.25 inch barrel, bobbed hammer SP101 might help too, since it'll soak up a bit more recoil.

Try some standard pressure 38spl loads in your KLCR. The LCR in 357 weighs 3oz heavier than its 38spl brother. Hornady also started making some light .38 loads if those are still too stiff but I doubt it.

There is a load I really like, it's Buffalo Bore .38 Special 158gr Lead SWC HP non +P.
I've chronographed it at low 800s from a 2" & recoil is managable. This load has a HP cavity you can almost drink coffee out of, it's big & expands well in jugs of water. It's what I carry a lot in J & K frame S&Ws
I have shot the 110gr +P+ in an LCR & it wasn't bad, but my hands are huge. You might look into the Buffalo Bore load.
Another suggestion would be get a supply of plain old .38 target wadcutters. Don't count them out, I've killed a lot of Muskrats with this load & it stops them right now. Usually DRT!

I have the LCR357. It handles 38+P fine. Mid range 357 was ok for a few years but I have Arthiritis these days. Full house 357 in the LCR are for the younger and stronger than me.

"Performance ammo" has largely eliminated the significant differences between most calibers.

Even the little .380 penetrates 12 inches denim/gelatin, and delivers significant expansion.

Same as ever, shot placement is critical.
A hit with a 10mm outside the 8-ring is not likely to end the fight instantly.

I have a SW 442 and didn't like the recoil with any type of ammo. Installed a Hogue mono grip and it makes a big difference. Still able to front pocket carry. Currently loaded with Hornady CD 158 gr XTP. I practice with wad cutters ,158 gr LSWCs and end the practice session with a couple cylinders of Hornady CD.

You might try the grip for the LCRx 3". It looks a lot like the grips Bill Jordan designed for the S&W K frames.

I would pick the .38 over the 9mm in a revolver. speed loaders for 38 are everywhere, are they for 9mm revolvers? speed strips are slow by comparison.

Have you made a decision on your carry ammo? The .38 target wadcutters might be a viable soloution when recoil is a problem.

If 110gr .38 Special +P ammo hurts your hand I would not buy a 9mm LCR.

.38 Special +P = 20,000 PSI
9mm = 35,000 PSI
.357 Magnum = 35,000 PSI

I have shot a 12oz Airlite J frame, it was not something I would like to do again.
I shoot and carry a S&W M442 w/.38 Special +P ammo. While it's not fun I don't find it painful.
I also shoot a S&W M640 with full power .357 Magnum ammo and it's the least offensive of the 3. It does weigh 23 ounces though.
