Smith and Wesson 10-5

Thanks, Frank. I agree that the model 10 is a great all around weapon. I find myself reaching for this one more than my other revolvers and pistols. The action on this gun is slick as glass as I'm sure Fallout Mike will find his is also. That 2.5 inch model 10 is very desirable and is a real keeper.

I saw one at a pawn shop the other day, the full length version, that was a 1968ish 10-5 in perfect condition. Unfortunately it had no box. He also wanted $600. The sad thing is I considered it.

I think $350 for a 2" M10-5 is a good investment.....considering that if you take care of it the revolver will be functional for many life-times!

You bet, those mod. 10s are an easy packing six-gun, accurate, powerful enough, easy to shoot, usually fit most hands, & with real eye appeal. They are just about the best size to fully realise the benifits of the .38 Special.
Try that one with some good light wadcutter loads & you will be pleasantly reminded of just why the Mod. 10s are bringing more & more money.
Every now & then we have to rediscover something!;)

You done good. The shorties have always commanded a premium, and about the only thing I have seen recently go for near the price you paid is beat up 10-14 four inch police trade ins.
The -5 is probably my favorite of the Model Tens.

Have you gotten it to the range yet?
Most of us would probably like a range report, I know I would.
Thanks.

Yes, I have taken it out to my club range several times. The action is so smooth that I prefer to shoot it double action. I most often go to the 25 yd. range and find that the gun will shoot to the point of aim with my target loads.
I really never thought that I would like a fixed sight .38 special but this gun has changed my mind. The simplicity of the Model 10 makes it a perfect all around sidearm.
Sorry Fallout Mike, didn't mean to hijack your thread.

I have 2 pencil barrel model 10-5s. They are ugly but shoot beautifully. Wouldn't mind swapping one of my 4" for a 2" or having the ugliest converted to a short barrel round butt. Probably not worth the cost though.

Thanks for the range report. Those mod. 10s are fun to shoot.

Are you shooting yours?
They are a lot of fun & a reasonable CCW gun too!
They are also an awsome trial gun.

I always like to consider what I can get out of a firearm if I end up not liking it, or if it's just not for me. At 350.00 into a K-frame snubbie, if you end up having buyer's remorse, you'll have no trouble getting your money back.

Something tells me it'll be a keeper. I miss my stainless 64 4" heavy barrel. Kind of jonesing for another K-frame.

What a wonderful old school k- frame. Pinned barrel and all, you did great ! A supreme HD gun for sure.

I've wanted a Model 10 for a while. I just bought a Century import marked 10-8 on Gunbroker for the princely sum of $220 (plus shipping and FFL). Sight unseen, I'm not expecting much on cosmetics...as long as it shoots fine, I'll be happy.

Mike, I hope you get to the range soon. It's been windy as all get out here & I've been wanting to go to the range for several days, but haven't gotten to yet.

I have a great small game load/target load. It's a very light load & a BUNCH of fun, should be acceptable in any vintage Mod 10, & even the M&Ps & Victory models for that matter. I've taken a Bunch of small game with that load. This load is the starting load of Bullseye & any good 148gr wadcutter. It's fun to shoot, accurate, & pretty clean shooting.
Have fun & when you get that nice six-gun to the range I'd sure like to see a range report.
Thanks.
