You are correct sir.
A far as visibility, I don't see any difference to my eyes of a globe sight with a thin post for hunting vs a hooded front sight. The Lyman 48 should be here tomorrow. It will need cleaning up but is period correct. Engraving should take a couple weeks so hopefully I can wrap this up before turkey season.

The rear sight arrived today. Vintage Lyman 48. Needs a little cleaning up and the base will be reblued but adjusts smoothly and positively.

Growing up in the 50's and 60's I recall well these beauties.

Looking good hoth. Real good.
 
Normally, when I see a classic old military rifle that has been sporterized, My blood pressure spikes and I thing homicidal thoughts.

But this rifle is so beautifully done I just have to smile and admire.....

If yer' gonna do it..... this is the way to do it.....
 
Just based on what I have seen so far...all I can say is that this rifle is going to be awesome when it's finished!

He's taking an already sporterized job and doing an upgrade. He's not bubba'ing an original. There are so many of those old rifles already redone back in the day, there's no need to take one in original shape and mess with it. I passed on a very nice 03A3 (the one with the GI peep sight) for $175. I am a fool. I had the simplest of bubba jobs, the original stock was just cut down to one of a more sporter config.
 
Very nice rebuild, mine is four years older then yours as far as date coding the serial number. Mine was built in 1922, still 100% stock, even the barrel. Someone did some stippling on the stock between the trigger and comb, it looks good so I don't see any reason to swap the stock out.

Anyway, post some pics of the rifle when it's all back together and some pics of the groups your getting out of it.
