What's a good holster for non belted pants

:banghead: yes yes yes... ::busted::
It is .06" and .08" that I should have written, AND, with reference to kydex. (I will note it in the post)

As I read it (most online references), for non-pro (meaning me) IWB holsters, .060" kydex is desireable for as low profile as you can get. OWB that thin may be ok for very light arms. Most pro kydex are of the .093" thickness for dependable performance under tough abuse.

I have been strongly eyeing StealthGearUSA's Onyx line of late. And for my CZ I really like what Garrett (Silent Thunder) is offering considering they thin-line their kydex with leather.

I'm not an appendix carry guy, but I've been paying attention to what the appendix carry crowd seems to like, and that doesn't seem like it would fall into that category. It's a pretty broad footprint for an appendix holster, and their clip is above the slide of the gun rather than over the gun or on the trigger guard side as you'll see on most of the better AIWB holsters. Notice where Garrett places the clip on their AIWB holster. You want the clip to help pull the grip closer to the body.

Interesting, thanks for pointing that out, JTQ.
It didn't occur to me (I have no aiwb holsters) that a rail side mount may affect poorer grip tucking than other designs - but what you point out seems to make sense.

Compared to a number of other aiwb holsters, the Stealthusa one seemed to me to be getting a lot of particularly fond reviews (especially for qualities of low profile, cooling, and comfort in general). Of course, I am talking about the not so 'pro-tactical' crowd.

A lot of those with the clip smack in the middle seem a bit too bulky to me, so I have been more focused on offset clip designs. I am going to ask around about that type of clip-placement design compared to others.

Thanks again for those reflections.

dear gym,

Since having my third round with a colostomy, this time right under the now-gone belt, I have had some time to 'noodle this out', so here is a hint.

Suspenders are a good thing. If you are not of the 'Brooks Brothers Clothiers' type, any wide model will work. I have looked at, but still pondering on that 'duluth' stuff, which also sells the older-designed button-fashioned suspenders.

I pocket carry. There is a 'pocket carry' YouTube video by 'armed response', that goes the gamut. It helped me make intelligent choices, and also in selection of clothing.

I have chosen to carry a j-frame, since I cannot carry my beloved Browning Hi Power anymore.

Caveat: with this colostomy, 'grandad pants' don't give any room to correctly wear a shoulder holster (remember, no belt).

Once I got the straps properly adjusted, my J-frame rides above the bottom of my ribcage. I'm using an upside-down rig, and that allows me to pull the gun up higher than most vertical or horizontal designs.

Most shoulder holsters seem to have *way* more strap than they need; I wound up punching extra holes to get enough adjustment, then cut off almost two feet of leftover strap!

One generally unrecognized trait of the upside-down rigs is that the gun is easily accessible with either hand, so you can carry on whichever side is most convenient.
