Haven't heard mention of this but cant seem to find it on their site & midway lists it as discontinued.

Not that I need one. I'm using a rangemaster 750 right now but had a 1010 on a wishlist for "someday" as a backup scale.

After all these years did rcbs phase it out finally?

Yep, 505 is gone too.

Looking at their new cat shows a couple newfangled scales now.

When they moved production of them from NJ (Ohaus) to China, QC went to hell and the scales were crap. Your not missing anything.

If you want a 505 get the Dillon eliminator. It even cheaper than RCBS same scale

The 505 looks to me now the M500

But as mentioned they are both still on Amazon (lower prices also)so if you want one grab it now

It's Ohaus that let us down. I read that everything they make lesser than scientific lab equipment is now made in China. That means the new Dillon (Ohaus) scale is surely Chinese built as well. The question I want to ask is .... are the new scales in RCBS's 2015 catalog Chinese Ohaus or did they find another source?

The Dillon eliminator and many of the other Ohaus scales like the RCBS 10/10, 505 etc. are also made in Mexico. They all say "Manufactured by Ohaus, USA" cast into the base but the cardboard box will actually tell you where it was made.

It looks like RCBS has dropped the ball, those scales look bad....

Unfortunately in this "global" economy most production is moved overseas.
We can only hope that RCBS, Dillon whoever have set certain standards to comply with as they are putting THEIR name on the product. So many reloaders are into the electronic scales, all of those are junk IMHO and made in China.

I certainly would rather see made in USA but China is capable of making quality products, it's up to the company here in the US to demand high quality.!

Used to be optics were the best made in Japan with Japanese glass. Now so many are made in the Philippines and elsewhere. Still a few US companies around and of course the real expensive German optics.

All we can do as consumers is not buy it if it's poor quality. I fear that will not happen though, Go to a Harbor Freight or WalMart on Saturday and see how much junk is sold!:(

When did RCBS start including Nosler reloading manuals instead of the Speer manual in their kits??

Yeah it seems all the masses want cheap to purchase and easy to understand interface, so that means less accuracy and digital for that price point. Instead of five types of mechanical scales with dedicated formats you get an electronic one that can be switched between formats.:barf:

Went to Ohaus website and they do not make any mechanical scales with grains measurement now. The balance beam scale is becoming extinct IMHO.:banghead:

Yes I have a couple of these - a good basic two poise scale. As with the other beam scale, the quality of the newer Redding No 2 has slipped.

The scales still look the same at first glance but if you look at the beam on the older scales you will see that they are beautifully engraved - the newer scale just have a printed tape stuck on the beam - anything to save a few pennies.

ATK, the company that owns RCBS and CCI and others, bought Nosler recently.

Got a e mail back from Redding. If you want an American made scale they are the one to get!

"Thank you for your interest in Redding Reloading Equipment. Redding has been making our own scales right here since 1946. Prior to the early 1980's we have made scales for other companies.

Regards"

My over 40 years old 5-0-5 has to be replaced.
I always liked it as it is easy to read---let you know how the Chinese one works.
I have a digital--about 7/8 years old---you have to play with it to get a good reading

My new Chinese 5-0-5 scale came in today in a RCBS box from Amazon
I thought the box was empty the unit is so light
It does work but takes more time than a Lee scale to give a reading ( too bad I quit smoking)
It is so light if you happen to touch it--it may fly across the room
Like I said--it does work & my old one does not ( after 45 years)--so
Have fun, --------------------:):)

Also: About 15% of the parts photo is missing on the instruction manual---printed in China--OH JOY
