Can you find .22lr?

For awhile in my area, there was definitely a scarcity of .22lr, but even then it was still always available even if shops had a limit on how much you could buy. For the past year or so it seems to be getting back to "normal".

Yet I still hear lots of people talk (complain) about not being able to find any .22 ammo. It seems that a lot of folks in my area just check Cabelas, and if Cabelas is out it's simply inconceivable (in their mind) for .22lr ammo to exist anywhere else. It seems like some people are just too lazy to check lots of smaller shops, but then I still hear plenty of people say that there isn't any to be found ANYWHERE.

So, just a little poll here for my own curiosity: Do you still have trouble finding .22lr? Have you noticed an increase in availability lately? What's the .22lr situation for folks out there?
 
I can find it, just not in quantity, or at the price it was before all the hopeless change. I shoot .22s every weekend.
 
None here for more than 3 years within a 100 miles. Well, that's not accurate. I've seen a number of bricks of Remington Golden Bullet at gun shows for $50+ and I am not that desperate. Wonder what point I will have to? Dicks had a shipment of 325 federal automatch In January 2014. Limit one per day. Bought three of those before they ran out again. I look everywhere I go... CabelAs, Walmart, dicks, academy, LGS. Still living on good 22lr purchased in 2008.
 
I can't find any on the shelves when I go to stores. I see some listed in on-line classifieds for my area but the price is usually ridiculous. Other people seem to have luck finding it but I think they are either very lucky or work very hard at locating and then buying all that they find.
 
None at close to any price I'm willing to pay -- Thunderbolt at the price per round I can reload 9mm for is a total non-starter.

The .22lr ammo situation is so bad for so long I'm seeing super deals on .22lr guns, but little point of buying them if ammo price and availability is poor.
 
There is almost none to be had here. When it appears on the shelves, it usually lasts less than a hour. That makes it impossible for a working guy to get any, as it generally hits the shelves in the morning and is gone by afternoon.

I personally have not seen any reasonably priced .22LR in over a year, and I hit all the local sporting goods stores regularly. I only know that some comes in once in a great while because the employees mention it when I stop to chat with them.

I have had a limited amount of luck finding .22 online, but often high shipping costs kill the deal. I'm seriously considering picking up a .17 HMR rifle just because I can find ammo locally for it.
 
See a lot of it on Arms list and gun shows for a dime or more around, and everybody claims its fresh ammo, so SOMEBODY'S finding it. Even with limits on purchase, the hoarders show up with their families and everybody grabs the limit and off they go.
I followed one guy that had multiple boxes of large quantity ammo, and he was going around the store hiding a box here and a box there, then headed to the register with the last one. He took everything that was left. I suspect he was going to multiple trip, using different registers. I helped myself to one of his hidden boxes, and returned the rest back to the shelf where they were quickly gathered up by others, possibly second string hoarders, but perhaps I taught one of them a lesson for the day
 
I have found bulk ammo one time locally in a retail store in the past 2+ years.

There is a pawn shop a 1/4 mile from my house with plenty of bulk. Guys lurk around Walmart, buy their 3 boxes when they can and sell it to the pawn shop. The pawn shop then puts a price 2-3x what Walmart sold it for.
 
Berettaprofessor, I'm sorry to hear that because I'm planning on moving to Kansas in a few years. Guess I better start stocking up!

Wow armedwalleye, good for you. That's just messed up for someone to do that.

HSO, I'm relieved to see one person that can find it! I didn't think it was still this bad!

My local shop seems to always have CCI subsonic segmented HP's lately for $4.50 or $5 a box. Then they always have at least one random brand of regular velocity round nose for $4.50 or $5 per 50rd box. Every couple weeks they get a huge shipment of bricks of some kind, always about $40 though not usually CCI. It's literally so much ammo that I don't think the hoarders can afford to buy it all up because last time they got a shipment of bricks it took at least two weeks for it to run out. If anyone would seriously want me to send them some next time they resupply, just send me a PM and we can work it out.

The range I go to hooks members up with bricks of Federal and CCI for $35, but they only allow one brick per month for each member so that everybody gets a chance. I've gotten several in the past

Just ordered a six cavity 22 mould. Gonn load all those .222 and 223 cases I've been saving and to heck with the hoarders, gougers, and others.
 
I haven't seen a lick at a big box store since late 2012. Zero, nada! Then again I don't shop in those stores that often.
LGS generally have some at ridiculous prices and I have bought some powderless locally.
Everything I have bought since 2012 has come from online purchases. Cabela's, Midway, Graf and a couple of others.
 
Depends on where I'm at. Where I live there is literally none anywhere.

A few hours north and I can find some in some places sometimes. The gun shop has the specialty type for like.... 13 dollars for 100 rounds of hollow points.

A few more hours of driving and on the way stopping by each place I can sometimes find certain types here or there. But it's never guaranteed.
 
Same experience as everyone else. Stores who have not raised their prices(much) rarely have it. Smaller shops that have adjusted to demand have some available.

I occasionally find it at Cabelas/Gander/Academy etc but I have to know when to be there. I had an Academy near my house before I moved and I knew thay got there shipments on Thur and Sun. So if I was drigin by on those mornings I would check in. Doing so I have been able to buy several thousand rounds.


I am actually quite surprised that 22lr supply has not settled down like the rest has. Its really not a current panic issue as 22lr was already somewhat scarce before that. But it makes me wonder if and when we will ever see a plethora of 22lr available on shelves. We already would if pricing would adjust for demand, but it hasnt yet(for reasons we have beat to death) and it doesnt seem like it ever will.
 
This thread is starting to scare me. I thought .22lr ammo was on the comeback! Looks like I'll be adding a little extra room in my budget for boxes of .22… especially since I have another .22lr firearm on layaway
 
In north Idaho it is starting to loosen up somewhat. We have a local sporting goods store that has a regular supply of it at higher than usual prices but not exactly gouging. Our local Walmart has been chronically out for over two years. I have only gotten CCI mini mags once when I was in there on a whim at 9:00 pm one night. I hate to say it but it seems like .22 will never be the same again. :fire:
 
Phoenix, Az here. I found some a month ago at Walmart for the first time in a couple years... at least the one in my neck of the woods.

Was a 325 brick they wanted $58 for. I walked away.

I simply quite shooting any .22 2 years back when I got down to 2 REAL bricks left.
Have since relied on center fire that I reload.

Then you have .22 WMR prices today. OMG! .40 is the same price or less off the shelf.
 
I won't pay $.10 a round when I can reload centerfire for almost the same. I still have another two years worth and am still hopeful.
 
I got sick of stopping at stores and finding empty shelves when I needed 22 to go plink or hunt. I've been ordering online and there are some deals to be had. I've paid less than $35/brick with shipping in my last two orders and that seems fair enough to me, but I don't shoot a ton. When I am down to about 750 rounds I start shopping. I no longer get the brands I like but I have a few 50 round boxes of hunting ammo and the rest I could care less about, its just for plinking and having fun.

I rarely take my Marlin Model 60 out and blast away, I've been doing much more shooting with my single shot, that seems to extend the range sessions and burn less ammo.
