The German version of the Heckler & Koch website does not list the P2000 or P2000SK anymore, HK-USA still does.

Wonder if they plan to stop making them, now that the P30SK is coming out. Think the little P2000SK looks better than the P30SK.

Probably gone

Z,

The P 30 is the newer, improved version of the P 2000 which was the newer, improved version of the USP.

Unless a big institutional user, like U. S. Customs & Border Protection, which issues the P 2000 decides to put in a new order, the P 2000 will be dropped and the P 30 will replace it.

Just time marching on. BERETTA would probably not be making the 92/96 model if it did not still have some big military contracts.

12 years ....

The HK P2000 line has been in the USA since about 2002 or so. That's a long run for any polymer style firearm when you think about it.
HKs are well made but not as common as the Glocks, M&Ps or XDs.
As noted, with US law enforcement contracts going down, Heckler and Koch will phase out the P2000/P2000SK pistols.

Ablemarle County VA where I'm from has the sworn personnel using the HK USP .40S&W Compact. They used the Beretta 92FS in the 1990s then switched to the TDA(Tradional Double Action) .40 HK model.

They still produce the USP which is twice as old. The P30 is newer but it doesn't fill the same niche. I haven't heard anything about the P2000 being dropped and I seriously doubt that's the case. I don't think the P30sk will totally replace the P2000sk either but I suppose it's plausible.

They will continue to make the P2000 series for the same reason they continue to make the USP, there a military and law enforcement agencies around the world that use them and require additional guns or replacements. They're not a civilian consumer driven company.

I agree with Hexhead, H&K handguns are mostly sold to LE agencies around the world more so than U.S. consumers.

The price of the p2000 and P2000sk have gone down to around $600. I have seen it mentioned on the HK Pro website that they are being discontinued and replaced with the P30sk.

I picked up both the P2000 and the sk models earlier this year at good prices after the price cut

I'll believe it when I (don't) see it. It was said the P2000 would replace the USP Compact. It was said the P30 would replace the USP. But all of those guns are still in production.

Heckler and Koch USA .....

The US version of the Heckler & Koch website still lists the P2000 pistols.
Interesting, they no longer list the .357sig caliber for the P2000 series just 9x19mm and .40S&W.

As posted, HK really does not seem to like or care about the US shooting sports/consumer market. The new US website does look stream-lined and modern. The new Heckler and Koch red logo is :barf: . Why companies feel the need to update or modify names/logos never makes sense, .

It reminds me too of one of the funniest gun related forum posts I ever read.
In the early 2000s, a gun forum member stated: "Who hates the US shooting sports community more? HK USA or Federal Ammunition?" :D

I don't think that's fair. HK USA bends over backwards for their customers, and their CS is second to none. Remember, for the most part they sell whatever guns HK GmBH builds; they're mostly an importer. HK in Germany is on a short leash for reasons ranging from post-WWII weapons production & exportation laws to financial issues stemming from some serious managerial misconduct (ie embezzlement to the tune of around $130M!). They can't just "whip up" a bunch of guns to suit a few sports shooters in the USA.

They're also very conservative, which suits me fine. They spent fours developing the VP9 with scarcely a rumor reaching the public 'til it was nearly done. And there have been virtually no issues with the gun "in the wild". This is the norm for HK and again, I'll gladly be patient in exchange for not being forced to beta test their guns for them.

I'll be nabbing a P30sk as soon as I can get my hands on one, but I doubt it will really "replace" the P2000. After all the latter is still carried by several LE agencies IIRC.

There's a brand new 2000SK in the case at an LGS. First I ever saw and very nice, love how it feels in my hand. I'd be sorely tempted, but I believe if I hold out awhile they'll come out with a VP9sk, which is what I would really prefer.

.

They do have a plant in the US now making the MR556 and MR762

apparently they have been making pistols in the US since 2008

That's why I said "for the most part". Some are made here, notably the HK45 and HK45C (but not all of them). From my understanding the shots are being called in Germany; HK USA can't just "cowboy" it up and create a new pistol on their own.

The rifles are made here to deal with regulations both labyrinthine and byzantine regarding military-ish weapons.

As to the OP, I seriously doubt the P2000 is gone. It's still on the HK USA website for one. And HK is well known for guns winking in and out of their catalog. They will make a batch of some guns periodically (eg the Mk23) and then not make any more for a time. Then they'll crank out another batch. The stainless USPc is another example of a gun discontinued then brought back for a limited run. Same for the Elite and Expert guns.

If you're worried by all means buy one now! But I think you'll be able to pick up a P2000 for years to come.

I've never even seen one at LGS's or gun shows but they look interesting to me. Going by weight alone, as that plays a part in what I can comfortably carry, they are about the same as the Kahr CW9 I now carry, around 22oz empty. They do appear to be wider and for that reason I'd have to see and hold one before buying. Buds has them for about $629 shipped, or thereabouts.

HK polymer frames .....

I'd agree that HK-USA seems to come and go with certain models.
I've seen the polymer frame models be offered in OD or FDE but not all the time, .
To make factory runs of different colors shouldn't be that much of a expense.
Heckler and Koch could have FDE frames or dark green as a choice for the popular semi auto models; P30, USP, P2000 ....
