Not gonna lie, I'm seeing some HOT Bulldoggles and Pitbulls in this thread!!

My .44 Bee Dawg is pack at the pound getting "fixed" if you will, pun intended.

Can't wait to get it back and see what new tricks it's learned!

*Dog puns off*

Shot another cylinder full in rapid fire off target, totally controllable despite the small grips, BUT:

Both panels cracked around the pin in the bottom.
Pretty but useless, another fourty bucks down the drain!

Pachmayr Compacts. Mine have been running for 30 years. Unfortunately most of the grip makers have ignored the Charter frame so there's not a lot of options.

The Pachmayr Compacts are larger than the factory grips. They will apply the force of the recoil over a larger part of your hand. They completely enclose the backstrap. If you could shoot a cylinder with the factory grips and then immediately shoot another cylinder with the Pachmayrs you would be amazed at the difference. Like I said, I am not of huge fan of Pachmayr grips but for this application they are about the only game in town for the Charter.

How was the recoil with the 40 S&W? What does it compare to?

Regards

Duster - thanks for the link.

Recoil - not worse than a .40 semi, why, I don't know. I just shoot a lot and if you want energy going out you must accept energy going back.
Last year I started shooting the .375H&H Mgn and now a .308 is nothing...
Just what you get used to. The small backstrap does not hurt, - just take it and stop complaining.

I think I'll order the boot grips directly from Charter Arms, they seem slim and we'll see if they hold up.

this compact grip offered by C.A. works well too.

I was going to ask how snappy is the recoil from that small gun?
I've shot a lot of .40S&Ws but from Glocks.

Don't give up on those stocks, get some good bedding compound, mix some up & force it into the cracks & chipped spots. Put some vaseline on areas you don't want to have it stick on, let it dry for about 2 days & I wouldn't be surprised if you don't get a lot more mileage out of those stocks. I like Microbed.
Give it a try nothing to loose.
Good luck, let us know how it goes.

You mentioned my favorite Elk cartridge, the .375 H&H Mag.

I know you guys love 'em, but if they were any uglier, they'd have to sell them with bags over them! Uggggggh! Back in the 80s you could leave one of them on a table and come back in an hour and there would be two more of them sitting there beside it! Boy, they're ugly!

I'll add another vote for the C.A. compact grips. I just got mine in the mail today and makes it much easier to conceal. I don't have the 44, but they should work well on it.

Yes, a bit snappy but still controllable, not worse than a small .40 semi.
Great idea to fix the old by bedding...will look into this.
Ordered the black boot grips directly from CA, if thos don't work I need to go back to the small rubber one...

mine took 14 days, that's counting weekends. I haven't had it to the range yet to see if the issue was fixed as I am waiting on another gun I sent them to get back to me.... make it all one range trip.

I think CA is doing it right now. A fellow I knew was getting light strikes, the shop he bought it from returned it & he had it back in 5 weeks, fixed & no more problems.
