The 2015 Walther catalog says the PPX has a "TENIFER™ COATED SLIDE AND BARREL: Resists corrosion. Matte finish."

I stand corrected. In either case, Tennifer/Melonite is one of my favorite finishes. I haven't tried firearms that were hard chrome/PVD etc.

I got one on GB for a steal and first thoughts were it looks like a high point & it's rather big so I thought I can just trade it off but after getting it I liked the fit of it.
So I took it out to range with some 124gr. reloads and that's when I fell in love with it, the accuracy is unreal and with the front heavy slide the follow up shot is right there.
If you can try one out first do it!

For the millionth time, Tenifer/Melonite is not a finish or a coating. It is a surface hardening treatment that does nothing to alter the color of the part being treated. That black stuff on the surface, that ain't Tenifer/Melonite.

While that is technically true, firearms are often advertised as having a melonite/tenifer finish. It's still a selling point because it makes the gun more resilient.

The PPX does have a very light trigger, whatever it's rated at. If used as a defensive firearm, I feel the trigger pull is too light for a gun that doesn't have a thumb safety.

I think it would be the ideal range gun for a lot of folks, though. Too big to conceal carry, anyway. I'm selling mine because it doesn't fill any niche that I need. But it is good quality and an amazing deal at that price...which is the only reason I bought it in the first place.

Tenifer, Melonite, Tufftride, Nitromet and others are simply patented processes for ferritic nitrocarburizing -- case hardening of steel. Some of these processes definitely impart a color (black) to the steel they treat.

6.5 pounds is light for a double action but not at all light for carry. Most Glocks have a stock 5.5 trigger and has a shorter trigger pull than the PPX, plenty of people carry those with little thought. I can carry my P99 in SA with the AS mode on, which has a 4 pound trigger pull without much worry of it firing in a good holster.

I dunno. The trigger feels easier to trip than my XDM despite being listed as heavier.

I bought a Wolf Distributers barrel for my 17L and I didn't think about getting the barrel without the Wolf logo and it scratched the heck out of the inside of my Glock slide and it sort of looks like brass where the finsh was scratched so I figured Tenifer must turn the steel an amber color.
