Have right at 250 rounds through my PTR 32. Bought 12 May 2015. Issue is every 3rd or 4th round does not fire. Does show a light strike. Put same ammo (off the shelf and reloads) with the same mag that came with rifle in my AK. No issue. Any ideas? Thanks.

I'm not familiar with the PTR 32, but the first two things I would check are springs and making sure the firing pin isn't obstructed by crud or burs or the like.

So you an shoot 3-4 rounds, get a FTF, clear that round and shoot another 3-4 rounds, get another FTF, clear it and this cycle continues through the entire mag?

Being brand new I'd call PTR to see if there is a known issue, then see what they want to do about it. It sounds like the hammer is closing the bolt one last click and that's why you have a light primer strike, so I'd check to see that the bolt completely closed on each round. Possibly the recoil spring doesn't have quite enough "umph", or maybe just needs more lube ... It shouldn't need to be "broken-in" but it seems like manufacturers say that rather than admit they need to do a better job of machining.

I have a 1st Generation PTR32 and it runs fine with synthetic mags (steel mags make it grumpy and I get FTFs), but other than that, it's that with all standard parts and Russian surplus ammo.
When I had my '32 pistol built I sent it to Ghilliebear at Parabellum Combat Systems (you can find him on the HK Pro forums) ... He recommended using a collapsable recoil rod the get the benefit of a full length rod and spring in the shortened system ... I got mine from RTG Parts.

Here's a vid of my pistol before he sent it back ... He tests it in FA because that's how I shoot it.

I'd suspect the bolt not fully closing too.

Run a mag thru it checking for the bolt carrier not being fully forward after each round.

Left email for a call back from PTR on 11 Jun. Still waiting for reply. And thanks everyone for inputs on this issue. As far as pics go, Atlantic Firearms has a good one of it. Thanks again all.

Received reply for Chris Petersen from PTR today. Here is the response:

Hi Ham,
Thanks for getting in touch with us.

I'm thinking that the issue lies with either the gun still being tight as it's still new, or something to do with the flutes being a tad dirty and choking off gas flow.

You didn't mention if this issue has occurred since you took it our of the box, or if it popped up at some point during your shooting. The first thing I would recommend is breaking the gun down and giving it a thorough cleaning. When cleaning the barrel please use a 30 cal. brush. When cleaning the chamber, please use a 45 cal. brass brush on a cleaning rod, and go through the rear of the receiver to access the chamber. Please do 5-10 passes in each area with the appropriate brush. Next, please swab both areas out with cotton patches until they come out clean and dry. Once both areas are clean and dry, please leave them dry. Finish cleaning the inside of the receiver, as well as the bolt group, and put a little bit of oil on the bolt head and carrier, then reassemble the rifle.

Once the rifle is reassemble, please try shooting it again with the specific magazine that your gun came with, and with FMJ rounds. If the problem hasn't sorted it self out through this cleaning procedure, please give me a call at 843.358.2222x312.

Best of luck to you and Happy Shooting!

Best Regards,
Chris Petersen

Did all that he recommended. Heading out to the range. Will post results upon return.

Back from the range and the PTR did MUCH better. Used Wolf FMJ and the 30 round Bulgarian mag that came with rifle. There was no pattern to the light firing pin strikes. Sometimes 2 in a row would not fire and sometimes I could send 7 or so down range with no issue. A few I had to shot 3 times to set them off. but, cleaning the rifle and will head back to range when time/money permits.

It looks like they have welded on a picitinny rail and changed the logo on the receiver from my Gen. 1 ... Do you know what other changes were made?

I've got about 1000 rounds through it and it's also been problem free as long as I don't use steel mags. I don't think I've shot it but once since I had the 32 pistol/SBR built. Mine came with the aluminum hand guard, I added the collapsable stock.

The gen2 handguard is polymer, same as the PTR-91 GI. And it is full length.

I've used surplus steel mags on the gen 2 without issue. Supposedly PTR addressed the magwell issues with the gen1 rifle.

That sucks ... Nothing like running back and forth to the range just trying to get it to shoot reliably :(
I recently had a similar problem with a CMMG dedicated 22LR PDW upper. It was 2x the price of any other complete AR-22 but they said that it would run full auto on my M16 ... And it seems like nothing NFA comes cheap!
After 4-5 weeks of trying different sear trips, rebound buffers, a complete new 22 conversion bolt, and me burning through a brick of mini-mags and other premium brands of 22LR which I haven't seen on shelves for over 2 years which I haven't been able to replace yet. Thankfully I had a good supply of premium 22LR before the panic because they didn't reimburse me for any of the "testing" I did for them ... But on the other hand they even though they had my money, they didn't turn their back on me either; in the end they developed a new collar that made it run perfectly and I'm one happy camper ... Hopefully things will turn out as well for you!

I've never had light strikes FTFire with mine, but I did have short stroking with Yugo M67 ammo.

Changing the anti-bounce lever spring and the angled bolt delay got mine running reliably. It is nice that G3 parts fit if you're into tinkering.
