New Ruger Redhawk

I'd be all over it if I had a grand laying about. Just about perfect:)

Just got the email from Ruger. Very interesting, like the half lug barrel and the round butt configuration.

Got the email earlier today. Very very nice looking gun.
Admittedly I'm a bit surprised it wasn't a total overhaul with a move to a grip stud. Would be a nice option and would make it compatible with the GP and SRH grips.

Either way I love the look. If I had the money right now, I'd be all over one.

Nice Redhawk. I also like Mr. Revolverguy's Alaskan conversion.

With revolvers like this that chamber cartridges both with and without moon clips, does this affect extraction of the regular rimmed casings? Mechanically, how does the extractor handle both types?

It handles rimmed cartridges because the edge of the cylinder is not milled.

Mine has never misfired, I couldn't be happier. Well yes I guess maybe I could. Ruger needs to make a 4inch 454 with this conversion, as I am not fond of the Super Redhawk.

It is more than a Triple Threat, capable of firing all of the ammunition below. But you have to admit Tripe Threat as a certain ring to it.
45ACP
45S&W Schofield
45Colt
45WinMag
454Casull

See the misfire in the video.

And he just seemed to gloss over it. I wonder what happened there. Maybe it was the ammo, but it doesn't exactly inspire confidence in a brand-new product.

Yep, I like they way he tried to cover up by saying he skipped one. Clearly the cylinder stopped, then the hammer dropped. Misfire. Guess he wasn't counting to 6, must have been distracted by the camera. Wonder what caused it, bad round/primer or moon clip issue? Guess they didn't have enough film to reshoot the scene. :)

Interesting
I'm wondering.......Ruger wheelguns are pretty tough. Hot 45 Colt rounds are strong.

45 Super?

460 Rowland?

A .460 Rowland is probably a bit more pressure than ideal at 40kpsi. That is even higher than the .44 magnum and in a larger caliber. .45 Colt Ruger loads usually top out around 30-32kpsi. The Redhawk does have a bigger, beefier cylinder than a Blackhawk though. I've also heard of people swapping a SRH .454 cylinder into a RH frame. Not sure if the alloy or heat treatment are the same between the SRH and RH cylinders, but a .454 cylinder could handle .460 Rowland pressure no problem.

I've ran .45 Super loaded to 460 Rolwand spec through a .45 Blackhawk convertible with no issues, even had easy extraction. The Redhawk is even more robust so I'm sure that it would be fine.

I have the 2.75 inch .44 Mag version with the round-butt grip. The round grip is easier to carry than the standard square grip frame. I like the Talo round-butt RedHawk more than the SRH Alaskan. I like the checkering on the new 45 Colt grips though..

I love RedHawks. They are my favorite revolver. I do not think a 45 Colt is in my future though. I am already squared away to reload .44 Mag/Special. The .44 is my favorite caliber.

Now can I convince my father to give me his 7.5 inch RedHawk Hunter..? I doubt it...!

Had a .44 Magnum Ruger Alaskan. It produced prodigious fireballs. Then it occurred to me. The prodigious fireball was lost energy that would have propelled the round faster down range had the barrel been longer. What is the logic for crippling a caliber supposedly good for defense against mountain lions and at least black bears with a short-barreled revolver?

I also had a 3 in. Ruger GP100 and it, too, produced prodigious fireballs when shooting .357 Magnum. Certainly adequate for defense against persons, but the fireball is blinding at night, so good luck with the follow-up shot. But what of the lost energy when defending against mountain lions and perhaps black bears, or hunting deer or hogs.

I've replaced my 3 in. GP100 with a 5 in. for traveling the wilds of the Lower 48 and have come to conclude that there is no handgun that should be used as primary defense against Alaska's bears.

Bob,

You bring up something very interesting.

Is that really what this logo is?

I have known that logo to be the Gunsite logo all these years. I thought the eagle representing the Nazi logo had the eagle perched on top of the nazi logo.
