I hate to be the one that says it, but the Springfield XD series are the ugliest pistols I have ever seen. They make a Glock look elegant. What engineer thinks a pistol with the words "Grip Zone" is a good thing? Bless his heart. I don't mean to offend anybody, but dang! I guess they're functional, but what a homely looking piece!

Well you are entitled to your opinion, I think an XD is slightly better looking and has a better grip than a Glock brick. Glocks are functional, good pistols but for the money I'll buy one that is comfortable in the hand, functional and safer.

I'll take the XD over a Glock every day of the week and twice on Sunday. Neither one of them are exceptionally good looking pistols, neither one has any real advantage in reliability or accuracy. Both have been in serviec for several decades and have good reputations for reliability and durability.

So what makes the XD (for me, anyway) better? It has a grip angle that a normal human being can pick up and run, not having to adopt an awkward angle of the wrist to keep from shooting down airplanes.

In short, the major failing of the Glock is a grip angle adopted because some engineer said so, rather than input from actual shooters. The shooting community simply adapted because of the durability of the pistol.

If the grip angles were the same, I'd call it an even draw.

I owned an XD once, they are great pistols. It didn't fit my hands quite right, so I was never very consistent with it. They aren't exactly blessed in the looks department, at least to my eye. I used to think Glocks were hideous, but they really aren't too bad. While not pretty, there is something about their simple, clean lines which are more pleasing than some of the busy looking guns out there (ie, "Grip Zone").

The first gun I thought of when reading the title was the Type 94 Nambu. They don't come much uglier! They are so ugly and so crappy I want to own one!

Good looks went away when steel frames and slides became the exception instead of the norm. If it isn't going to be blued with wood grips then it durn sure better be comfortable, reliable, and accurate. I can sacrifice pretty to save weight but I'm not sacrificing the others. Now if your picking between the best looking turds in the bowl then I would be inclined to say that an xd is slightly more attractive than a glock is, but marginally.

"Grip Zone".... That's funny. My wife and I were just joking around about that on the XD. She picked up an American Rifleman and pointed it out to me.

They are good guns, but it was dumb to put that on the grip.

hey where is the "bullet comes out here" stamping
i don't know where the exciting things happen on the gun:p

Guncheese, that's funny! It could say "danger Zone".... It kills it for me when there's silly things permanently written into a gun. Especially when it's factory. What's next for the XD? Pictograms of all the functions?

North Georgia Hunter,

Ugliest pistol? Do not look up the Japanese Type 94 8mm service pistol of WWII. What is seen can not be unseen! You are warned.

jad0110,

Somehow I missed your reference to the same on first read. Shame on you for encouraging the innocent to view those things.

Yeah the Type 94 Nambu will take the Ugliest Pistol prize every time though the Ramline Exactor .22 pistol will give the Nambu a good run for the money!

Sure it's not attractive...

maybe even a bit repulsive in some of its forms - all that "info" on it, yikes!

But still, the OP sounds kinda like the postings on IMDB where it seems every movie ever made is the worst movie ever made to someone.

Side note... for years I though SA autos were XPs not XDs.

Anyhow, "Ugliest pistol ever"...? I submit for your comparison:

You know I actually like the borschardt(sp). There is something kind of steampunk mechanical about it that I have always kind of dug.

NOTHING is uglier than a Glock. In fact, Webster has updated their definition......

Y'all be quiet about that. I've been working a long time to convince gang-bangers the way the really cool guys do it is to look in the little hole and push on the trigger.
