We hope you learn to be more circumspect in public than you were in your original post.

It is clear that you're young and inexperienced and can be expected to have some incorrect notions about self defense. As pointed out your ideas about knives are completely unrealistic as are your ideas about how a real attack while entering your vehicle should be handled.

Since the question could be restated as "In Ohio, what firearm can someone under 21 legally carry in their vehicle?" without the adolescent bloodthurstyness you'd have gotten some short clear answers instead of raising all of our concerns about your attitudes and maturity.

Since you have already got legal advice my thoughts are;

I'm not a fan of mace at all and not much of a fan of tasers.

There are some people that Mace/OC/Pepper Mace is not effective on. I know cause I have fought them. Plus I have been maced several times and I was able to finish the fight successfully

Tasers have a lot of limitations. I have been tazed so I can attested that it is effective...in the right conditions in the right circumstances.

We live in the country and it may come as surprise to some that the most useful firearm on the farm is a H&R Single-shot 12 ga. Pick-up a good used one. I brought ours for around $80.00 I think. Cut a few inches off of the barrel to make it more handy. Loading it is quick and easy as the barrel release latch is on the top of receiver by the hammer.

Affordable especially for a tight budget, short enough to handle quickly, quick to load.

I opened this thread thinking it would be a good discussion on how to stay legal, making sure that a truck gun was legal length, not cut down too short for a < 21 year old, what sort of hunting would the OP do, etc. Wow. I didn't think it would be about how NOT to stay legal!

1) Don't hang out in the wrong spots, 2) don't hang out with the wrong people, and 3) if you get to your vehicle then just drive away.

Understanding self defense law is more complicated than just reading the words in a statute. One has to make sure to have read all the laws on the subject and also have some understanding of court decisions. The link below is to an article by Andrew Branca on the some unique aspects of Ohio self defense law. Andrew has written and lectured extensively on lethal force self defense.

I'd suggest, in this order:

Study case history in your State re self-defense-it may be an eye opener.:what:

Take a good basic self-defense class. The first thing you should learn in any good one is how to be aware of your surroundings. The best courses go through the levels of defense from bare handed (unarmed) through firearms.

Develop proficiency in whichever SD method you choose.

By then you should be 21, and can apply for CCW.
