So like a dummy I took a Savage 99 on a trade off of facebook. I knew that the gun had a new barrel on it and something did' look right. Anyway I took it to a gunsmith to mic the barrel and test fire and to stamp the barrel as a .243 winchester.
Long story short a kitchen table gunsmith had put the barrel on and removed way to much material for the extractor. So the side of the case blew out of the test round. Thankfully the gunsmith fired it from the hip due to a recent shoulder surgery. So now I have a worthless gun other than a wall hanger. The gunsmith has had the rifle for two months now looking for a new barrel.
In the end does anyone have a good lead on a used or new barrel for this rifle pref would be a .243 winchester but I am open to other options.
