springfield xd

I have a 9mm Sub compact I use for EDC, and a 45 compact as a nightstand gun. I started with Glocks, but I found that I shot the Springfields better. Haven't found anything yet that is better for me. YMMV of course.

I also have an XD9SC and it does the job for me. It conceals well with the shortened mag.

It's the finest value to be had for polymer pistols on the market, in my opinion.

The triggers are awesome right out of the box, the quality and construction are top-notch (they use the old Glock tennifer finish which even Glock stopped doing). The grip safety in no way inhibits it's use and increases safety massively. You can reholster with the pad of your thumb on the back of the slide assured you won't negligently discharge.

Really, the XD is what Glock used to be, but even better because of the ergonomics. Oh, they're easy to shoot accurately, too. The XD is the Glock perfected! :what:

Nope. It's an additional failure point and a hindrance to one-handed manipulation.

Other than that, though, it is a pretty decent pistol. Not that great of a value though, compared to the sale prices you can other find for other pistols like the M&P.

I have 3 XD pistols and buy them because they have the grip safety. I bought 1911's first and was used to the grip safety and like them on the XD. I have never heard of it failing.

My 3 are .45's, 2 4" XD's, one a compact. They hold 13 rd mags, and the other is a XDS that is a single stack and great for carry. Never had a failure out of any of them.

If I were in the market I would look at the XDM over the XD.

I HAVE heard of the grip safety failing, and the XD has a unique trait: the grip safety locks the slide. If it fails you can have a situation where the gun is unable to fire, can't have the slide retracted to disassemble it, and has a live round in the chamber - making shipping it to the manufacturer a difficult proposition.

The XDM changed that so that the slide could be retracted without the grip safety pressed down.

As to the value of the grip safety itself - I'm neutral on the issue. I've got a 1911 and an STI 2011 that both have them, and they haven't ever caused me an issue, but neither do they make they gun any safer IMHO.

I have the XD 45 tactical as well as 3 XDM's. All have been fantastic and I can't recall having any type of issue with any of them. They simply work when you pull the trigger. My hands are small to mid size, so while the XD is comfortable for me, the XDM is a better fit. It comes with 3 backstraps, so it'll fit a larger variety of shooters. I have had a couple of issues with my XDS' and an EMP, and Springfield's customer service was outstanding.

I have the xd9sc love it, only complaint was the mag release button is too tight to the grip I had a hard time getting it to release the mag.

I've had the XD9 4" Service and the XD45 4" Service. Gave both away to the kids but not because of any problems with either.

The factory trigger leaves something to be desired but is easily remidied by companies like Powder River Precision.

Good value for the money but there's lots of competition.

some of em are made in croatia, not sure which, my xd40 is usa. try to get a usa made
I'm pretty sure they are all made in Croatia, though that shouldn't make any difference whether they are a good or bad gun.

buying a gun is often times a large investment for many , you want to be sure you are buying the right gun for YOU , as the best gun for me could very well be vastly different

my best advice would be ....

1) decide on the caliber that does the most damage within your budget to be able to shoot often ( ammo price matters ) you can have a aesthetically beautiful gun with enough fire power to kill an elephant but it won't do you a bit of good if you can not hit the broad side of a barn with it because you can not afford to practice adequately with it and or it does not fit your hand properly

2) go to your LGS and handle every handgun they have in stock and pick the 3 most comfortable and natural feeling guns in your hand write them down and go home without committing to anything ... get on the computer and watch reviews , tabletop and range reviews for each model ( do not be swayed by brand names or price tags ) ...

3) take that knowledge learned from the reviews read and watched and return to the LGS and handle the guns that remain on your list post reviews .. if they have a range ask if you can fire those remaining guns and base your decision on the combined factors of all of the above ..

no point throwing good money after bad trying to pin point what does and does not work for you , what works great for me may be horrible for you and vice versa

I have an XD-40 Service (4" barrel). It's my only striker fired, polymer pistol; all others are 1911 format. It's a nightstand gun in my vacation house. Reliable, handles and shoots well, eats all kinds of 180 gr FMJ and JHP. YMMV

I traded for a lightly used Xd9 4" last Friday, and shot it on Monday. It's a great feeling gun, and very accurate. Mine was manufactured in Dec. 2012 and says "Made in Croatia".

Take the advice given and go handle different guns before you buy.

I have the xdm 525 in 9mm it's accurate and the trigger is decent. It also comes with fiber optic and adjustable sights. I also have an m&p in 9mm also not very accurate, terrible trigger but less muzzle flip and I love the feel in my hand.
