Hi everyone,

I have a WASR-10 that has been experiencing some issues. As the forward portion of the bolt carrier group (that the piston screws into) goes into the gas tube, it can snag every so slightly...if I rack the bolt and then lower it slowly, I can get the bolt to snag. Gently tapping the stock (not even the bolt handle) will release it.

Is this going to cause premature wear or anything not good? I don't have anything else in the AK platform for comparison.

Thanks!

I have one that's been doing that for around 7-8000 rounds. I figured it'd "wear in" but it hasn't yet. I sometimes use it as a bolt hold open. :uhoh:

I don't worry about it, anything it would wear out would also be easy and cheap to replace.

What DeepSouth said. It can be sort of a bolt hold open. Just don't depend on it. Ouch!

Ditto on the hammer contact. Nothing to worry about, my WASR still does it even after 1500 rounds. I have the TAPCO single hook trigger group.
The actions are supposed to rack/operate at full speed anyways.

Thanks for the replies everyone!

Definitely not a bolt hold open, hah! And yeah, it's likely a lower-quality WASR - I bought it in....2005? 2006? Somewhere in there. It was like $200 at a pawn shop. no idea the background of it.
