No.

The neck will be a little short, but it really won't hurt anything.

You should check the neck thickness though, and make sure they are not too thick to release the bullet in your chamber.

Nope. That's how the .270 came about. You'll likely have to turn the necks though. Necking down will cause them to thicken. The brass doesn't go away.

Depends. I want the case to cover the chamber, the difference in length between the two cases is .041".

Part of the 30/06 neck becomes part of the 270 shoulder, it is not likely the neck will get thicker and or thinner.

Actually, the .270 is a necked down 30.03 case, not a 30.06. Slight difference in the shoulder which is why the necked down 30.06 case will be shorter.

Somebody less precise than The Guf might say that necking .30 down to .270 will just put off having to trim cases as they stretch with use.

You might or might not have to turn or ream case necks. True, the necks will thicken but sporter chambers are pretty roomy.

I used to form .308's out of 30-06's,years ago when I was bucks down, they worked great. hdbiker

Speer manual #8- 1970, stated "using 30/06 cases F/L sized to 270 tends to increase the rate of throat erosion".

Speer manual #9-1974 they changed their former statement using 30/06 cases sized to 270 Win. "The slight difference in reformed cases doesn't make any practical difference".

Speer has kept to the 1974 change ever since.

I received a call, a builder of bench rest type rifles was accused of building rifles with loose necks. And I asked: "How was accuracy?" the builder said accuracy has not changed. I boxed up a few dies and tools and took off for his shop. I formed LC Match 30/06 to 308 W. I did nothing to the necks, when finished he had .003" clearance. The change in case neck diameter did not effect accuracy.

I make chamber gages, I make chamber gages from shot out barrels. I started on 8 barrels, before cutting the barrels I cleaned them first, 6 needed cleaning in the worst way.

On the two I cut-up both had gas cutting caused by short cases. I want the case to cover the chamber.

Why not

just buy some .270 brass and your troubles are over? It's available and cheap.
