So I've submitted my form 1 to SBR my Zastava M92 PAP AK pistol. I think I know what direction i want to go with it once it's approved but was wondering if any of you have any cool suggestions/ideas?

Currently it's got a hogue grip and krink style muzzle brake and that's it. I'm leaning towards putting a manticore arms triangle stock and stormwerks folding adapter on it.

I've got to figure out optics for it too since the regular irons are horrid :)
Maybe just slap a red dot on it and call it good.

Thoughts? Pictures of setups you like?

I think you're going the right direction with the Manticore and Stormwerks combination. That's what I would do if I were setting up an AK SBR based off a PAP.

Optics wise I would look for an Ultimak and one of the micro aim points.

Should be a fun project! Post pics once you get your form 1 back and have the gun put together!

Thanks Telekinesis, good call on the Ultimak. I wonder if a Trijicon Reflex would be viewable on that distance being so far away from your eye. I think I've got something I could put on there though.

Thanks Sebastian, I was on that site quite a while ago and forgot all about it.

I have that stock set up on one of my AKs. Its not bad for what it is. However, it is a BEEFY stock. Its a heavier set up than I like. I decided to spring to have a 100 series style folder put on my next one. That is a MUCH more expensive and/or labor intensive option. I like them a lot more though.

As to optics: I have a TWS top cover on another AK. These were all the hotness for a while. Frankly I don't think they live up to all the claims. I'm considering using mine on a mini draco. The mini has no other real good way to mount a micro aimpoint which is my preferred optic. For the PAP I would probably choose the tried and true ultimak or an MI handguard with optic specific top piece. A RDS is IMHO very well matched to the distances a 10" barreled 7.62x39 is suited for. They are also a huge improvement over the irons.

Manticore/Stormwerkz (taken on a rare Warsaw Pact themed day in the desert):

Nice, reliable, fantastic trigger, and 922r compliant. Added a single point sling mount. 4 cotes of linseed oil (sanded) and a 5th wiped lightly with a microfiber cloth but not sanded for a semi-gloss look.

Thanks for chiming in guys! Some cool stuff, simple and functional, just the way I like it. :)

Before you go tossing money at an optic and mounting solution, I recommend removing the white paint from the rear sight blade first and then taking it out to the range again. You will be surprised at the difference this makes.

With the white paint in place, your eyes shift focus back and forth because the white is right in front of your eye, yet you are trying to focus on the front sight. Once I removed the white paint from the sight, my groups tightened up dramatically.

For a muzzle device, the booster is useless unless you want to impress people with a 3' long fireball. The Bulgarian style 4-piece flash hider works great, as does the Manticore Arms Eclipse. No noticeable flash with those devices, which is what I prefer.

The Stormwerkz hinge with Manticore triangle is a nice setup. Just be sure to get everything aligned, measure twice and go slowly with the drilling and tapping, as the trunion is very hard steel.

The paint on the rear sight is really only a problem if you're not used to focusing on the front sight to begin with, but just like a handgun you get used to ignoring it. I just like having an EOTech because I'm used to running it for faster target transitions. The mounting option was more what I was curious about for options.

Nice looking gun there, who makes the grip?

I guess the point I'm trying to make is that it's very difficult to focus on a black front sight when you have something bright sitting right next to your eye. The white numbers also obscure the crisp lines of the sight blade. It's a huge distraction. I'm not alone in this; lots of people have reported much better results after removing the white paint. I'd definitely recommend trying it first, since it would cost you next to nothing.

In my opinion, I don't think an EoTech is the right choice for this application. It is designed for the AR with it's inline stock, so the height-over-bore was spec'd with that in mind. On the AK, it is going to sit way up high, and getting a good cheek weld is going to be an issue. Even using an AR extension as a stock solution, the optic will be sitting way up there. It's definitely something to consider, given the costs involved.

The grip I'm using is a US Palm. I really like the grip, but I wish it had a plug in the bottom of it, as I like to keep a folded up copy of my Form1 in that location.

Good points, thanks.

I usually stick with the same grips on all of my AK's but I've never used that US Palm, might try it out, but I agree that having a plug would be nice for the form.

I've used half a dozen AK grips: US palm, ergo, Magpul, saw grip, AR grip adapter w/different AR grips, Molot grip and various factory grips.

I like the US palm grip which I have on a couple of my guns and I anticipate using again in the future. I agree it would be nice if there was a plug for them though.

M92 sbr

I ended up going with a Polish underfolder; I just got it back a few months ago. I still have one or two things I want to do with it, but otherwise it shoots great. I bored out the bolt head hole on a Tapco standard AK grip to get it to fit (the Zastava pistol grip bolt heads are the largest of the bunch, apparently). The feel between the pistol grips is night and day. I wanted to stay with a more traditional look, without any fancy add-ons. The G2 trigger kit shoots a bit nicer than the Zastava setup, IMHO.

I just completed a M92 with MA stock and Stormwerkz hinge. No complaints whatsoever. I also have the funny looking muzzle device on the end. Not sure if it does anything or not....

That's pretty similar to what mine will be Lightsped, I do think the handguard furniture will look better a few shades darker though.

Yeah, I'd like a darker wood, or maybe even a slightly redish wood color, but not sure who refinishes them. I simply don't have time to do it myself...

My favourite for AR or AK remains the Hogue. YMMV.

The easiest way to go is to start with an AK pistol ... I did mine with a PAP M-85 and the Manticore triangle stock with a ACE push-button hinge ... I'm thinking I'm going to have a buddy weld it on just because ...

If you read my post that's exactly what I said I'm doing. :neener:

Not exactly! You're doing a 92 with a Hogue grip, mine is an 85 with a MagPul grip ... geeez, that's completely different

If it makes you feel better, here it is with the barrel extension that brought it up to 16 1/8" I had pinned on it while I was waiting for stamp!
