Something that can be done with that Colt Python is engrave it. I had a S&W 27 31/2 inch that was worse and a engraver bought it. The trick is having a pattern in mind that can hide the damage.
Wow ... I got quite a response! I was more curious about why they still load soft points in .38 if there wasn't any upside to using them. I had acquired several rounds of the .38 S&B and what got me thinking was looking at some vintage ammo. It appears that in the 1940's & 1950's the Soft Point...
Thanks for the reply. I think I got that about 900 feet per second off a YouTube video and we all know how accurate their info is LOL! They could have been shooting them out of a Winchester 92 for all remember. They did offer good penetration compared to several other .38 rounds they tried.
Do 158 soft points S&B offer anything better in performance than 158 grain lead or 158 grain fmj at revolver velocities? I would expect them to be a bit better from a rifle .... may expand a bit better? Pretty sure Magtec offers the same load and a similar price. Anyone shot enough of either to...
A local auction house charges 37% to the seller and additional 10% for the buyer so I know exactly where you are coming from! The recently sold over 50k worth of Firearms for a friend. It about made me sick to see what he got ( his estate) net out of a couple of Firearms I was watching.
Thanks to all for their input and knowledge! I had never heard about gunsmiths doing any conversions on the S&W Long Actions. Was it perhaps King Gun Works that did the conversions? I have seen the neatest modified revolvers that came out of his shop ... Both Colt and S&W.
I don't think you can get there at $600 but a Beretta 85 and a Sig 230 are the Caddy's of the .380's IMO. You can always get a Glock and have money left over for ammo. Look at a Glock 42 & 25 ..........
What was the primary reason for S&W changing from their Long Action to the Short Action? I would have to think it would have been because it was easier to make or was it because they viewed it as a improvement? I venture to say that I have owned over 20 examples of each and I liked them both...
If you ever shot a Pre War S&W K frame 22 you would understand. That's coming from someone that has S&W 617 10 shot & a S&W 63 8 shot. Those old pre war S&W 's are just works of art & steel.
When I think home shotgun for what you describe I only think of 3 shotguns ... Winchester 97, Remington 870, and Browning A5 design - Remington Model 11. I am talking short barrels on all 3 and if you can extend the magazine fine. You take any of those shotguns and if there isn't. enough...
