    Bluing, who's do you like?

Honestly, you could get it Cerakoted in E110 Midnight and get a great looking finish. I had a Model 70 refinished that way and the final result was outstanding. And at a lower cost than a quality blue job.

What gunsmithing or repairs have you done today

Filed the cocking piece on the 8x64s to a better angle to get the safety to engage more smoothly

    Thinking about a 6.5x55...

Takes a little file work, but it opens up just fine for a Timney, although I generally prefer a DT trigger on a hunting rifle. A DT is pretty much drop in.

    Thinking about a 6.5x55...

I hear that, but I'll be putting this in a Bell and Carlson Medalist...my 8x64s is in one with a #2 1/2@23". Just a very handy length, handles nice and looks good in that stock. Thinking when it's all done, I'll leave the barrel unfinished and coat the action in matte black. Then I'll finish...

    Thinking about a 6.5x55...

Probably the same reason I built an 8x64s when an 8mm-06 would have probably made more sense, I just like the old early 20th century cartridges. They really were a marvel of common sense design, and while the 6.5 Creed and the .260 will be do all the same things ballistically but they are a...

    Thinking about a 6.5x55...

Just picked up a Mauser 98 receiver, thinking about sending it off to ER Shaw and have them put a 23" #1 barrel in matte stainless on it. Any thoughts about a 6.5x55 on a 98 and would you go what twist for the barrel? I'm currently leaning toward 1:8 as I generally lean toward heavy for...

What Do People Mean By “Sub-MOA” Gun

Alright, get as bent out of shape over this as you want BUT, "sub-MOA" in a hunting rifle is mostly BS. I would lay out $100 if 3 out of 100 shooters at an outdoor range at any given time, with a hunting rifle, are capable of shooting MOA groups at even 100 yards regularly. Furthermore, I...

Ordered a Bell and Carlson Medalist M98 sporter stock for the 8x68s I'm getting built.

Optic to rifle value ratio annoyance

I tend to stay in the 3-9x40 or 4x fixed area for optics. Frankly, I'm not a long distance shooter and I've always been a firm believer that if 9x isn't enough you need to get closer. I have some more expensive optics, that being said, I wouldn't have a problem mounting a Burris FFII on...

What have you done in the reloading room today

Loaded some test ammo today, 8x64s with 170gn Speer over CFE223 and 8x68s with 200gn Speer over A4350 and W760(2 batches)

    Accurate 4350 in 8x68s?

I know it's not exactly a common cartridge, however, have any of you reloaded 8x68s? I'm thinking 200gr Speer over Accurate 4350, according to xxlreloading.com I should be able to work up to 67.9gr@2900fps give or take. Ran the load through Gordon's Reloading Tool and it comes back pretty...

    Cabelas/Bass Pro head scratch moment

Used to be able to score bubba'd up M98s from Cabelas in Richfield WI for great prices whenever I was in the area. Of course the guys selling them probably weren't happy. They pay more for guns now, not bad if you're selling, but not great if you're buying. Can't have it both ways.

What is the last gun that you bought?

Just snagged a 1950 LaCaruna M98 barreled receiver for $17.50 on GB. Of course I'll be into it for probably $70-80 by the time it's shipped and transferred. Still not bad for a decent 98.

    Sellier and Bellot ammo

I use it in my 8x64s, it's worked well so far.

What is the oldest gun that you have fired?

Have to check the exact year, but I've shot a sporterized Mosin that my grandpa bought in the 50s that was made in, I believe, 1893.

NUMRICH Has Mauser 98 Bottom Metal

Used one on the 8x64s, 86mm mag box. Direct swap for military bottom metal, footprint is a touch bigger than commercial 98 guards. Overall a nice functional piece.

    Hunting with a mauser

Started deer hunting with a sporterized K98 and original irons. Have also hunted and taken deer with an all original Hakim in 8x57. LOVE my 98s, current go to rifles are a VZ-24 sporter built with a surplus yugo 48 barrel and a McMillan classic and a 8x64s built on a Mark X in a B&C.
