What Do People Mean By “Sub-MOA” Gun

The truth: “It’s the Indian, not the arrow.” A 7 MOA shooter/ rifle will kill a deer at 100 yards most of the time. Most shooters embellish, most hunters embellish, most fisherman embellish - they are not unlike politicians.

    Thinking about a 6.5x55...

OP, have you ever noted the pattern that you ask one thing and you always get told to get, use or buy something else. It is always geared toward what they have, own or use. We all need approval and acceptance I guess. Anyway, any of the 6’s you choose should perform well for you - they all do...

Don't sell your gun in a parking lot

Thank God! Another internet gun blog problem solved - now we can move onto the next.

What are the transfer fees in your area?

Hmmmm, now let me see - I am automatically prohibited from taking possession of a firearm until I pay to prove myself innocent and worthy of my right? That seems somewhat backwards to me in an “innocent until proven guilty” legal system? What’s next - pay a transfer fee for our words to exit...

    Made in Portugal M70

Anything during COVID in the manufacturing world was possible - quality took a nosedive - purchasing any product during that period of time had associated risks. With that said, I purchased several (3, two levers and one M70 SG) Winchester rifles during COVID - all were flawed, all could...

    Interesting discussion on the XM7

I remember the same talk about the M16A1 during my Vietnam era service AND, our Government has always had corruption - nothing new here.

    Rossi vs. Winchester

My (5) five levers are all of Miroku manufacture; ‘73 (.45 Colt), ‘86 (45-70), ‘92 (.45 Colt), 2 - ‘94 (30-30, 38-55) - they are all flawless! I do not get the pre-‘64 obsession, I never will. Rossi or pre-Winchester, Winchester everyday of the week and twice on Sunday.

Optic to rifle value ratio annoyance

Most would not mount a Tasco on a Rigby double; most would not mount a Nightforce on a Western Auto rifle. A rifle/ scope cost ratio will usually reflect the buyers financial means - usually the best of both within the limits of the wallet will be the target purchase.

High cost scope not always better.

I am a Leupold guy; have been since the 70’s and I know no other glass. I have never been disappointed - a great product. Now as I read, there are lots of choices for great shooting glass today - good for all of us - what a great, great Country!

Clawing back Wayne LaPierre's legal expenses.

Great idea - let’s spend a dollar for a possible fifty-cent return. We need the genius of the Framers to govern all public and private institutions - three equal branches who’s own corruption is a counterbalance to the corruption of the other two. Again, that is what happens when you subcontract...

Oh great distroyer of bore brushes.

A bore brush is a wear item that reacts to use frequency and cleaning chemical strength. The bristles will melt and wear faster over time dependent on those combinations of intensity. The safest answer is that bore brushes will remain effective until they are not.

How many rounds to settle in after cleaning?

I use the same Eliminator - have for years - I must agree, a fantastically effective bore cleansing product. In terms of settling as a general rule, one fouling round usually does the trick with my centerfire rifles. My rimfires (.22) are a different animal for some reason, usually five or more...

What is your preferred trigger pull weight?

Any poundage that is usually set up on a factory rifle is fine with me. The break of the trigger is much more important to me than the poundage - if the trigger breaks like proverbial “glass”, it is fine. Now for ultra refinement, feel and perfection - 3# AND “breaks like glass”, I am in heaven!

    Cabelas/Bass Pro head scratch moment

One absolute truth about Cabelas or BP or any retail establishment for that matter, no one can or will make you enter and no one can or will make you purchase anything. You have choices, exercise them - “buyer beware” is always alive and well. Here is a novel idea, if you do not like a price on...

Trying to frustrate my future self

It does not matter how much gun “stuff” is coming or going nor how young or old you are; when the angels come to get you, everything must go - everything. The range and the hunting seasons will eventually close forever. By far, the most precious commodity you have is time.

    25 Creedmoor I think I need one

I have noticed that my old, antiquated .243 is really beginning to fail - I shoot a deer, the bullet impacts the chest and just slides off onto the ground - then the deer laughs at me!!!!! I have also noticed that same phenomenon with my 6.5 CM, .308, 45-70, 30-30, 38-55, 6.8 SPC, and .223 -...

Why Emphasize That It's A LOADED Gun?

Sadly, we on this blog already know the answer - we consult the preachers and the choir is singing and no one else is in the church. Have we - like SNL - just exhausted our material? Does it really matter, no member of this church is going to change it. Now let us talk about a subject that...

    Hunting with a 223/556 11.5 AR

There is a “wallop” factor that every caliber possesses - most experienced shooters have an instinct for that factor and the appropriate use. Others are rendering an opinion based upon extremes and then others just do as they are told. I “think” that your wallop factor for a deer with a heavier...

What new rifles are most exciting to you this year? Or over the past year?

I am interested in a Seekins Havak PH3 in either .308 or 6.5CM. I would like to handle one and get performance feedback from the field prior to a purchase. It is a very interesting new design with seemingly lots of bells and whistles at a reasonable price point. It is one of those designs that...

    Remington 700 long range.

One thing about internet blogs, if you net out the positives and negatives on any subject that you can think of, the conclusion will always be zero. In other words, don’t listen to these people, don’t listen to me - if you want a 700 in 30-06 with a heavy barrel, buy one and enjoy it. Don’t be a...
