Brass submerged under water for a while...?

Interesting. The only use I ever had for amyl alcohols was to reduce the volume of aqueous solutions of DNA. (Mix, centrifuge, suck the amyl with some water off the top, repeat until desired volume reached.) I'd be surprised if I used more than a liter or two in my entire career.

Brass submerged under water for a while...?

I wonder. I do know my grandfather wouldn't touch pineapple again until the late ’70s, though he as an army medic, so I doubt his source was torpedo fuel. :)

Brass submerged under water for a while...?

Interesting, but what's that got to do with what's on the US list and whether or not it's 100% identical to the lists of other countries? Certainly there's overlap.

Brass submerged under water for a while...?

Yeast can make amyl alcohols, aka fusel oils, if the fermentation conditions are too hot, IIRC. They make a little bit anyway, just more under some conditions. Nasty headaches are the result...

Brass submerged under water for a while...?

There's a federal list somewhere in the regs. The exact list probably varies by country.

Brass submerged under water for a while...?

As a molecular biologist, EtOH is for precipitating DNA, so the MeOH stuff was my favorite. :)

Brass submerged under water for a while...?

What's usually in it when I go to Lowes or used to order it from VWR or Sigma. Fair point on the gas, but is it even labeled 'denatured' on the pumps? I will have to look next time I get gas.

Brass submerged under water for a while...?

Not gas usually, instead stuff like acetone or isopropyl alcohol, it varies by manufacturer, but the idea of making it unfit for human consumption is correct. The amounts of the unfit substances are miniscule, just enough to discourage people from drinking it.

Brass submerged under water for a while...?

Ethyl alcohol or just ethanol. The -ol at the end means alcohol. The ethane root or ethyl adjective mean two carbons. It eats seals and fuel lines, not the metal. Ethanol in gas can also suck water out of the air, that's probably responsible for the corrosive effect. Ethanol itself isn't all...

Who has Cleaned a Fermenters After Making Beer?

It's phosphoric acid and a quaternary amine, IIRC, which has detergent properties.

Who has Cleaned a Fermenters After Making Beer?

    Acid is needed for that.

Who has Cleaned a Fermenters After Making Beer?

I have, too. I even have a stainless conical fermenter. PBW is great for getting off beerstone, but I've switched to OxyClean. It's similar chemistry but cheaper. Base is great for food debris in general, which is why dishwasher detergent is basic. Heck, PBW is basically dishwasher detergent...

    Write it Down!

I've been thinking about printing hard copies for analog backup. :)

    Write it Down!

My computer is in the reloading room, my records are on screen as I go. Yes, write it down, be it electronically or hard copy and have that at ready view. As a plus, tunes or other audio plays during long sessions.

Chronograph Sample Size Comparison & Statistical Analysis

Correlation isn't always perfect. Excel can calculate correlation coefficients, FWIW. 0.95 is darned good in some systems.

Singer Sewing Machine 1911 being auctioned

$400,000 is 1% of $40 million. There has got to be a big bunch of people in the US worth that and more.

Singer Sewing Machine 1911 being auctioned

I think it's just good to highlight their service and sacrifice, not to cast shade on you or anyone. To the actual thread topic, I would give my left *** for it, but that's not even close to enough. :)

    7.62x39 .308” 110gr & CFE BLK

The old Mini 30s had a taper in some part of the barrel, I forget exactly where, that went from .310 to .308, so they could use both Combloc ammo (.310+) and commercial US loads (.308 usually). I had a late '80s one and sold it off.

How about a cartridge close to .44 magnum?

Other way 'round; .40 Short & Weak is shortened 10mm (note that I don't think badly of .40 S&W, but it underscores the point). .44 Auto Mag Dirty Harry even had one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vQrJ9u-jo_E
