Drawing-How do you deal with a heavy jacket in winter.

I generally favor winter coats with snap closure, two I have been particularly fond of are a M65 with liner, and a Fallraven parka. Both have zippers that I practically have never used, instead just fastening the storm flap snaps, this allows me to use my left hand to rip open the coat...

Recommendations for Mossberg 500 HD Barrel

Yes indeed, it is tapped for a front end sling swivel. A QD mount would be an improvement in that role to my thinking, but they do indeed match the OEM well.

Replacement is solid, no complaints, would recommend highly.

Best 38 Spl self defense load for a snubby?

I tend to stick with the old school advice of loading 148gr full wadcutters in my snubby. Good enough terminal effect, no worries about expansion or not, light recoil, and the flat face/sharp edge tends to make it tumble rather than deflect or icepick. Fortunately the only actual shooting...

    Favorite Pump Shotgun

You make a good argument for the 37, between that and my experience with the ones I’ve worked on or repaired for people, I just may have to add it to my list when I’m stalking the used gun racks. A nice short 18-20” barrel 37 would be just about my speed.

Recommendations for Mossberg 500 HD Barrel

Well, the barrel arrived and looks good with the exception of it missing the bead sight, however I have contacted them and they are going to send me a return shipping label to exchange it. Outside of this, the fit is great, and it makes the gun much handier. Since the seller is willing to...

    Favorite Pump Shotgun

I’m partial to the Mossberg 500 family of shotguns. Never got on well with Remington 870’s, don’t fit me as well, and didn’t feel right, even though they’re a solid gun mechanically. Have worked on a couple Ithaca 37’s and have nothing but good to say about them, it’s a different mechanism but...

Recommendations for Mossberg 500 HD Barrel

Oh, definitely not getting rid of the 28” ported, it really takes the sting out of heavy 3” loads, and with the wide double bead vent rib it did nicely for trap shooting too.

Got the CDNN barrel ordered, thoughts in a few days when I have it in hand.

Recommendations for Mossberg 500 HD Barrel

Interesting! 18.5” with chokes….hadn’t heard of such before, could be real handy though, especially for pest control and such where the range opens up a bit. Modified choke tend to pattern buckshot well. Have you had any experience with that barrel? I haven’t heard of the brand before.

Recommendations for Mossberg 500 HD Barrel

I will soon be getting back an old Mossberg 500 that I bought as one of my first hunting shotguns, and left with my father when moving out of state, and has been kept in a family friend’s safe since my father sold his house and moved as well. It’s a very basic 28” ported vent rib model, and...

    Desantis Apache

Honestly, the Apache is probably the least bulky ankle holster of quality that I’ve handled or used. I have a very nice vintage leather Bianchi that is unfortunately bulkier so it doesn’t see much carry.

Inside of the left leg, just as @trackskippy said. Stays out of the way, and is natural to reach for as you lift the pant leg with your left hand.

What's your preferred every day carry?

S&W 642 with 148gr wadcutters in an ankle holster every day. I’ll also carry a 1911, Glock, or full size revolver generally, unless dress code prohibits it. Sometimes I’ll carry a .22 revolver or pistol on the property for varmints in place of a larger caliber pistol.

    Desantis Apache

I’ve been carrying my S&W 642 in an ankle holster for around the last 8 months, sometimes as my only gun, other times as a BUG when I’m carrying something else. Due to my dress requirements at work, a neat and put together appearance including a tucked in shirt is a necessity, so on the clock...

    Do it all levergun

Sorry I missed replying to you earlier, southern whitetail or boar would be the largest game I’d be intentionally hunting with what amounts to a compromise rifle, larger game like your moose would dictate something more specialized.

    Do it all levergun

No doubt that a AR or AK will be more effective in an extended firefight, I am more referring to home defense capability if nothing else is available, or more easily reached. Personally I live rural, and the most likely threat is a crackhead trying to break in, or more likely a fox or possum...

    Do it all levergun

General purpose meat gun, deer and hogs are about as big as I’d expect it to cover, at medium ranges, 100-150 tops.

    Do it all levergun

What do you prefer for a do it all lever action rifle? This should cover hunting, pest control, defensive/offensive use within civilian context, and possibly informal plinking or target shooting. Initially, I’d lean towards an older Marlin 336 in 30-30, however argument could also be made in...

    America and the .32 Revolver

1895 Nagant with a conversion cylinder, they used to be commonly available when the guns were first being imported, should be easy enough to track down still.
