An unxpected surprise at the range this AM

The last Ruger mark-series .22 pistols I have bought that had a good trigger from the factory are the Mk II series. The Mk III .22/45 and IV I have both needed to have me install Volquartsen parts to make the triggers presentable. (In the case of the Mk IV, pretty darn awesome.) It is...

IF I were going to buy a 9mm Glock...which one and what to add/change?

I’ll be honest, if you didn’t like the feel of the Glocks you shot years ago I sorta doubt you will have changed your opinion much over time. The generationy changes are pretty subtle, trigger shape here, fingergrooves there, etc. So the new Gen 5 Glock 45 still feels and shoots an awful lot...

    Ruger New Vaquero

That Birdshead Vaquero is one good looking sixgun! I would have brought it home, too had I stumbled upon it. I put some Amazon special wooden panels on my Wrangler Birdshead, there should be ones for your .45 if you desire. (I think it dressed it up a touch over the wafer-thin plastic ones the...

    Show your Ten Gauges

I never had a 10 gauge. Many years ago I did see a Mag-10 Roadblocker standing up in a gun store used gun rack, the thing looked like an absolute brute. I wasn’t in the market for one, so I didn’t ask to handle it. (I think they weigh about 10 pounds?) Stay safe.

    Used rack find

I hear you about cheapo Winchester shells. These were the all-time worst shot shells that I have ever used: Glad that 11-87 seems to be a keeper. The 1100 is my all time favorite, the 11-87 is even more reliable with the gas system allowing a wider load selection. :) Stay safe.

    0000 buckshot?

Those things really bring the mail. I have seen a IDPA plate or two hit with a load of 0000, the impact is impressive. Stay safe.

    SMLE Magazines?

SARCO should have them, too. And just about anything else your gun needs. https://www.sarcoinc.com/1-mk3-enfield-rifle-magazine/ Stay safe.

What have you done in the reloading room today

I did the same thing with a wooden-topped husky tool cart. Nice to be able to move stuff around sometimes. 😀 Stay safe.

What have you done in the reloading room today

I have a few of their red ammo cans from orders I made in years past. 👍 Stay safe.

Win 1894, is the front sight too low?

My 336 is a .35 Remington wearing a simple 4x32 scope. This gun shoots really well for a lever gun at 100yds. I am not the world’s biggest fan of scoped lever guns, but it shoots so well I’ll never change it. (Especially with the pointed 150 gr Rem Cor-Lokt, single loaded of course.) 😀 Once I...

Win 1894, is the front sight too low?

OK, I pulled out the two near-identical rifles. The one on the left is the 3,000,000 series gin I was shooting, the other a 5,000,000 gun. Both work great, the only difference is the 5-mil gun has a bit of bluing thinning and missing bluing on the barrel bands from what looks like riding about...

Win 1894, is the front sight too low?

I’ll pull it out of the safe in a bit and check. I have two other 20” 1894’s in .30-30 to compare it to in case it’s a different sight blade. (The 16” trapper .44 is a different setup.) The other similar guns I have shoot roughly 2“ high at 50 to account for the rainbow trajectories out to...

    What did you shoot today?

I got to shoot my CZ550 6.5x55 at 100 yds today, factory ammo was PPU 140 gr PSP and Sellier & Bellot 140 gr PSP. The gun was good with them, nothing super great. (Windage was initially off, rounds kept going a bit right even with a R to L breeze.) PPU: S&B: I adjusted the windage a bit and...

Unusual 38 special case head stamps

I have a few rounds from one of those Sportsman’s Guide purchases left, the last batch I bought was 1991 manufacture. Stay safe.

Win 1894, is the front sight too low?

Hey all, I went to the outdoor range for the first time in a while. I brought along four hand loads for my 3,000,000 series Win 94 .30-30; 160 gr FTX over 35.5 gr LeveRevolution. 150 gr Hornady RN over 37.5 gr LeveRevolution. 150 gr Xtreme plated over 31gf IMR 3031. A older mystery load using...

    CZ 527 w a Mannlicher Style Stock

Nice job! That looks fantastic, you should be proud of your work. 👍 The straighter stock lines and black tip kind of reminds me of the Mk III Lee-Enfield (without the barrel bands and metal bayonet lug-nosepiece of course.) My only Mannilcher style stocked rifles are Rugers...

What have you done in the reloading room today

I brewed up another batch of .45 ACP using a 200 gr SWC over 5.1 gr HP-38. I realized after I refilled the Folgers container back up that these black and gold coated bullets would make a New Orleans Saints fan happy. 😀 Stay safe.

would you consider trading one for the other

There is personal pride in having and holding an older gun in great original shape, even if it’s just 25-30 years old. But if you have an even older one that shoots great, which you apparently do, then I agree with your decision to hang onto it in lieu of a trade. One of my nicest looking S&W’s...

What's your favorite Hot .45 colt loads?

I used to put an X on the .45 Colt cartridge heads with a sharpie to mark the stout loads. At one time I had a Uberti Cattleman and a Ruger Old Vaquero. I didn’t want to mix the Ruger loads into the Cattleman. I didn’t go haywire, I think my absolute maximum load for the Ruger was 10.0 gr...

    Bayou Bullets

Same here. I still have a few hundred Brazos projectiles left from orders a while back. As for Bayou, I hope they get the order out soon. No telling what may be going on with smaller bullet makers when things get delayed. 🤔 Agreed. The narrow meplat and sloping nose of the 150’s makes for...
