    Turkey, Pheasant and Trap question

I was introduced to the Trap game in the mid '60's by my Dad and his 1938 Remington model 31 with a 30" full choke when I was bout 12-13 y o. That was the easiest to shoot Trap gun I ever shot for singles. His favorite for years before he bought a Rem 1100, was a Win model 12 with about a 26"...

    Patch lube that *doesn't* work?

I've used goat and/or lamb tallow to grease RB patches in my .50 H&A Underhammer to good effect on Colorado elk in the past and the R.E.A.L. bullets are real hammers out to about 50 yds. (never could get them to hit paper further out than that) the Underhammer is a RB gun and I liked to hunt the...

    Garand brass marks

You can tune your ejector spring a coil at a time if it's really beating your brass up. I like my brass to eject at about 4:00 o'clock and a strong spring can send brass forward after it hits the op rod handle. Where I used to shoot in Colorado the front of the firing berm didn't get mowed very...

    Two of S&W best ever

That burnt primer at 12:00 looks kind of ugly Mr. Farmer. Is your firing pin still round on the end? (Speaking from experience)

    Airguns on the Shelf

I have three airguns that I've had starting in the early 60s. The oldest is a Hammerli model "D" co2 Target pistol my Dad brought back from a trip to Switzerland. The second oldest is a Crosman 1377 pumper pistol I had bought new sometime in the 70's. The "newest" one is a Sheridan Bluestreak...

Which gun gets wolff spring kit?

My Ruger Bearcat shot groups with a vertical component 2x what the horizonal component was as it came from the factory. Once I put a 16# Wolff mainspring on it, the groups became (almost) round.

Anyone keep a yearly round count?

I count and date all the rounds I have loaded. I could go back and see what I have left of those stored but it wouldn't give me a yearly count to the number shot in a year. (Close, maybe?)

    Red dot or irons

I sort of agree, but: I signed up for a service revolver match last year where I shot my S&W M66 and wanted to study the "best" accuracy shooting bullet weight for that course: 25-50yds. I have molds for .38 caliber from 105gr to 168grs. The vertical impact difference between light and heavy is...

    Lunch at the cabin.

Cute camp. What's that in the B/W pics, a skunk? My neighbor, across the road in Colorado fed his dog at home on his porch. Neighbor raised a couple of generations of skunks under that porch. Them and his cats got along just fine and the dog, FINALLY, under threat of yet another wintertime bath...

    Basic Chef Knife Discussion

Enjoyable article. Made me go check out the wife's kitchen assortment for compliance and then I had to go look at my hunting knives to check the balance point.

    S&W Model 65-2 transitional 3" 357

Scary at 1st look but those grooves are in the frame and don't appear to be coming from the mouth of the barrel so they don't look like fractures. Weird though...

    NEF Pardner 12ga

Some years ago a Dad brought his kid to our gun club to shoot trap with his NEF,HR or Marlin (I don't know which or what gauge single shot), he must have been 8-9 years old. The kid killed those birds at the short line. Some of us spectators got together and bought him another round or two just...

    Colt Government Series 70 Bushing

My old gunsmith "friend" told me when he talked me into buying a Gold Cup Slide, Collet Bushing, Barrel and Link he had laying around, instead of having my REAL gunsmith rebuild my Bullseye gun after 20K rounds that if I moved the slide back 1/4"before rotating the collet to remove it, it would...

    Pinned Barrels, yes or no

My 1990-91 Model 66 has no pin while my earlier Model 19 does. One shoots about as well as the other. The thing that bugs me about the Model 66 is I can feel my cleaning rag being compressed as the jag passes through the frame. The Model 19 doesn't do that. It's uniform from muzzle to forcing cone.

What's the oldest (by date of manufacture) ammo you've fired or own?

I have some 1950, 52 and 1966 LC carbine ammo that I would break down for the bullets if it weren't such a PITA. It shoots REALLY dirty so, in the mean time I save it for new users to shoot when I'll have plenty of time to clean up after.

    Found Gold Today

You made me go look up my old loading data: oldest is March 1981. All it says is: 5.1gr Unique, Fed 100 primer, crimped flush; so probably a Lee wadcutter? I was casting round balls for my Muzzleloader by then but it looks like it took me a few more months/years to develop any kind of...
