    Lube Balls

I believe that Ugly Sauce made some extensive remarks about results with his formulation of lube pills, or rather, balls in his case. Seems he scooped the lube into almost caliber-size balls with a popsicle stick or some such. I personally haven't yet had an opportunity to try them out but would...

Is it possible to identify a lock?

I believe you have an L&R lock there.

    Knight Ultralight .45

Sorry I can't help you regarding your questions about bullets but Triple 7, Pyrodex, American Pioneer Powder, etc. are substitutes for real black powder. That is all the word "substitute" means. Good luck in your quest for bullet info. Somebody will be along to help you out.

Just how hardcore are you about black powder?

I'm with you Mr. hawg. Why don't we just throw another log or two on the fire? :D

    New project

Thanks for the info sir. My #5 came with neither forearm nor lug, just a threaded blind hole in the bottom of the barrel. I wonder if Ken Womack might have a repro barrel lug. I will have to dig out his business card and contact him.

    New project

Mr. Hawg, I am very interested in learning how you decide to attach your forearm. I have a #5 rolling block and would like to copy your attachment method if I can. Thanks.

    Shoot, or Don’t Shoot?

4V50 Gary, did you ever visit Dave Cumberland's Old West Gun Room at the original location on San Pablo Avenue in El Cerrito? That is where I got my black powder,...... with a note from my mother of course! 😁 Price at the time (early '60s) was $2.50/pound. If I brought in my empty can to be...

Winner Winner, .58 caliber Dinner! Sometimes things go right.

Complements on your work. 👍 I truly hope you never have to tackle Mr. Grizz Lee all by your lonesome but it looks like your shorty .58 would get the job done if necessary. Give any other attacking predatory critter pause to contemplate the wisdom of its decision as well. Seems I read somewhere...

Nice-looking sheath, and the patina on your blade simply means it has a story to tell... . 👍

    Pietta Shooter's Model stripped threads

Although this would be a good solution if one has straight access to the hole, I don't think it will be possible in this instance. The Remington nipples enter the end of the cylinder at an angle which I think will prevent getting a straight shot at the hole. Best of luck at any rate.

    three questions

You gotta put them eels in the freezer for a bit to stiffen 'em up then slice 'em into 1/8" sections. Probably better to use young eels - smaller in diameter.

    Couple more BP guns.

Your stock looks beautiful. If you don't mind, what stain did you use and how did you finish it? Thanks.

ArmiSport 1853 Enfield musket bullet size

If you wish, you can get a pretty good idea of the groove depth by using calipers to measure (at the muzzle) from a land to the outside of the barrel. Note the dimension. Then measure from an adjacent groove to the outside of the barrel and note that dimension also. Subtracting it from the...

    Kibler range report

:D Did you find the 4-speed, 5-speed, or 6-speed shifter knobs? Would you use a 4-speed knob on the rod for a flint lock and save the more modern 5- and 6-speed knobs for (more modern) percussion rifles? How about one of those old Hurst shifter handles (aluminum, I think) with the finger...
