• Possible Downtime Alert

I am working to migrate THR from the current cluster to a new one. I would like to get this done before the weekend, but it's unclear what the timeframe will be, as testing is still ongoing. As I am writing this the new (rebuilt) host is doing a burn-in to ensure that everything will keep running under load.

When the migration happens users will see a Cloudflare message indicatating it cannot connect to the server. This is expected, and depending on how the migration goes this may last from 30 minutes to 3 hours - I won't know more until testing the various migration options is complete and I have finalized the plan.

More information is available in this thread.

As always, thanks so much for your patience.

    Should firearm training be mandatory?

RKBA is a right, but the exercise of that right comes with responsibilities like training to understand the difference between TV/Movies/Games and the responsible right to carry in society. As a minimum you should know what is and isn't safe and responsible and what is and isn't permitted for...

    Soft tang but hardened blade..?

The blade is through hardened instead of edge hardened and the tang isn't hardened at all. Be careful "bending" the tang since it could be stub with a mild steel extension that can break at the forge/weld line.

UK to ban ninja style blades

They're not prejudiced against ninjas or zombies. They have a bunch of criminal youths using whatever "mail order" "fantasy" knives in violent crimes and they try to ban the implement, like we do, instead of addressing the root cause of the violence. We like to deceive ourselves that we're any...

UK to ban ninja style blades

That ban went in before this "Ninja knife" ban. They made a non-locking blade folder for there.

    Original Kephart on Ebay!

Other than the spine being the thickest part, it is very close since Ethan gave of copy of Mike and my drawings to KaBar and let them copy his knife. There's no way to comment on materials since no one knows what the original materials were. Mine is L6 saw steel. The KaBar is 1095. Properly...

UK to ban ninja style blades

Are the spine and edge straight? No. Is the tip a "tanto" or "reverse tanto"? No. So, it doesn't meet the criteria.

UK to ban ninja style blades

So what are they calling a "ninja sword"? A 'ninja-style' sword is typically defined as a blade measuring between 14 and 24 inches with a single straight cutting edge and a tanto-style point. According to the Home Office, it must have a straight primary edge, a secondary straight edge, and a...

    Soft tang but hardened blade..?

Between the spine and the tang or spine and edge? IOW, if the spine is soft and edge hard, it was edge quenched instead of the blade having been quenched as a whole. The tang apparently wasn't quenched since it is soft.

    Soft tang but hardened blade..?

It is easy to get a hard blade/soft tang. Was the spine soft too?

    Original Kephart on Ebay!

The slight taper to the spine is the full length of the blade from the thickest width of the blade on the line from tip to the plunge. I need to find the drawings McCarter and I made and post them.

    Original Kephart on Ebay!

The other thing the Kephart inspired knives don't include is the slight narrowing of the spine from 2/3 up from the edge on the original. The thickest part of the blade is in line with the tip and falls to the the edge and slightly tapers to the spine.

I thought that pinch may be a wear feature, but seeing it at the museum and reading descriptions of it makes me think it is a feature instead of wear.

    Are gun sales going down

Buyer saturation/fatigue, political complacency, and general economic attitude seems to be the reason that sales have been falling since before the election and are likely to continue before plateauing ... unless some new perturbing element appears.
