• Possible Downtime Alert

I am working to migrate THR from the current cluster to a new one. I would like to get this done before the weekend, but it's unclear what the timeframe will be, as testing is still ongoing. As I am writing this the new (rebuilt) host is doing a burn-in to ensure that everything will keep running under load.

When the migration happens users will see a Cloudflare message indicatating it cannot connect to the server. This is expected, and depending on how the migration goes this may last from 30 minutes to 3 hours - I won't know more until testing the various migration options is complete and I have finalized the plan.

More information is available in this thread.

As always, thanks so much for your patience.

Is This Too Harsh a Response to Angry Anti's...

Sorta reminds me of a wartime thing: There are those who gave so much; and there are those who took so much and gave nothing in return.

    A proper medal presentation

For what he did for his comrades-in-arms, that man deserves a lot--a whole lot--more than a couple of Purple Hearts. A Medal of Honor doesn't seem a bit too much for what he did. But that's a really tough job to get it done. But even if it gets knocked down to a DSC or a Silver Star, it's...

    Benchrest Shooting for Load Development

Murphster-- You've got that "Geezer's Eyes" thing all too correctly. When sighting in or load developing an iron-sighted gun, I fudge like the dickens. Have to be able to at least see the target in order to do any good. Pistols (revolvers) generally never go beyond 15 or 20 yards...

    Shooting Cats ?

One of the reasons I don't like cats . . . any cat: Quite a few years ago I had an extensive cartridge collection which I kept compartmentalized in a series of wooden type case drawers. My wife had a Siamese tomcat that had the run of the house. Not only did the critter knock plates off...

    Alternative to Bush?

Wanna be silly? As long as we're talking about giving people strokes, vote for Hillary Clinton and watch the Republicans drop like flies . . . . Not for realistic comment.

    Fox News fair and balanced

Isn''t Bill O'Reilly's nightly program broadcast on Fox News? I believe he came out in favor of the AWB because he didn't want those machine guns and rocket launchers on the street. Fair and balanced . . . right.

    Mandatory Service

La Pistoletta: I apologize for thinking you might be an American. A careful reading of your posts would certainly have disabused me of that perception. By the way, my nationality, my true identity, my place of residence, virtually all other information about me are divulged in my personal...

    Mandatory Service

Golgo-13: Strange you should mention the Civil War and it's experiment. That form of the draft gave ample opportunity for people such as you to HIRE others to do your job for you. It must have been really patriotic to stand on the street and watch your hirelings parading past with Old Glory...

    Mandatory Service

In the context of what Trapperjohn quoted from my post, I was referring to military service. In wartime, when the survival of a nation is at stake, one's form of livelihood almost always is subordinate to the nation's requirements. Where is it stated that a doctor's job is more important...

    Mandatory Service

    Photos of Mauser rifles

Dagnabbit, Oleg: Now you've done it! I never was much into military firearms, but your recent photos have me drooling to become a collector. I especially have liked the looks of the Mauser k98 in military configuration. I've owned them before, in the long ago past, but the heavy recoil...

    Mandatory Service

La Pistoletta: If you want to live your life as you please, stick your head in the sand and pretend that all is right with your world, go ahead . . . up to a point. But when you violate a traffic law, steal from your government (nonpayment of taxes) or commit some other law violation, expect...

    Mandatory Service

Mr. Bri-- The United States first adopted peacetime conscription with the Selective Training and Service Act of 1940. The act provided that not more than 900,000 men were to be in training at any one time, and it limited service to 12 months—later (1941) extended to 18 months. After the...

    Cheap single stage press?

Sounds to me like you really need to get a reloading manual, or two or three, and get at least a first grade education in reloading before you leap into things. Several good ones are, of course, Lee, Hornady, Speer, Sierra, Lyman and others that teach the basics of reloading. Any of them will...

    Shooting Cats ?

Feral cats are, as a rule, efficient hunters and killers. They'll take birds, mice, rabbits, anything they can catch. And not necessarily use them for food. My rule of thumb for years is that any cat found a quarter-mile or more from a residence (rural or semi-urban) is feral and needs to be...

    Mandatory Service

For some reason I have hesitated to contribute to this thread, probably because of the harsh comments I'm afraid . . . no, I know . . . I'll make. I was one who volunteered for military service in wartime. I fought, alongside other volunteers as well as draftees. Which war doesn't really make...
