Thanks for the advice everyone. I’m going to stick with the Colt as my go-to rifle. GunnyUSMC is right about it being hard not to get more. Chances are I’ll end up with a DD or similar at some point, but the Colt will likely always remain the AR I pick up to use most of the time. I don’t mind it...
You're right! I'm definitely being nitpicky now. I shot it yesterday and it was quite accurate and completely reliable. I think I'm starting to feel comfortable enough to spend money on rails and a couple of other upgrades for it.

Is this something I should be concerned about? It’s a bit frayed looking or something. It’s not like this on my friend’s AR
Call it an OCD quirk or something, but I would rather keep the Colt lower and upper together. I don't really have a tangible reason why, I know the military throws uppers on different lowers all the time that work just fine. I think I want to stick to complete rifles. Now it's a matter of...
This is another point that makes me wonder if I should upgrade. The Colt uses button rifling that is not quite as durable as a cold hammer forged barrel. That combined with it being carbine length makes me wonder if I should go for something "better", i.e. a midlength gas system and cold hammer...
Can I put a Mk12 upper on a standard 6920 carbine lower? I see that both Daniel Defense and BCM have their complete Mk12 rifles with carbine collapsible stocks. Looks like a carbine buffer system. Is this good for a rifle gas system and 18” barrel?
Getting a Mk12 upper does seem like more of an...
Another question... if I went for a midlength, should I just spend the $550 for a BCM complete upper and slap it on my Colt lower, or is there some advantage to buying a complete BCM mid rifle (other than having 2 rifles instead of one, haha). I’d be tempted to save the money from just buying a...
I’ve shot a middie before and didn’t notice a difference, but that could be because the front end was quite light with a pencil barrel. Only time I noticed a difference from my carbine was shooting a friend’s AR with an external piston. That did seem to shoot softer. I have no real desire for a...
This is the first time I’ve heard a statement like this. One can obtain the benefits of a longer gas system on a carbine length using an AGB? Would I be able to change the A2 FSB of my LE6920 to an AGB without much issue?
I have a Colt LE6920 I purchased about a year ago, of course with the carbine length gas system. I thought I had the last AR I’d ever need, but reading about these midlength gas systems has started to make me doubt. If I really want a top of the line AR, should I have gone with midlength? Now...
This document seems to give the message that the 5.56/.223 is not a very effective performer, and I was surprised to see it say that the M193 out of the M16A1 in Vietnam was considered ineffective. It seems to suggest the 5.56 is marginally adequate at best, and better suited to shooting...
Actually, I was going to ask you about something you said in another thread a few years ago:
Is this even when there's adequate velocity? 25% seems like an unacceptable probability with something like this.
I guess my main question with this thread is if I'm not going with adequate incapacitation with as few rounds as possible. I plan to shoot until the threat is no longer a threat, but the .223/5.56 bashing on it's ability to stop an attacker gives me pause.
I live in a rural area, but I have 2...
I have an Arsenal SGL20 in 7.62x39 that I have countless thousands of rounds through and am well practiced, but from what I understand most FMJ 7.62x39 has a history of just punching straight through tissue without doing much damage or expending much energy. And the only reliably...
If this is the case, why do many hold the .357 Magnum in high esteem of being able to incapacitate an attacker, but the .223 is considered by many of these same people to be inadequate for incapacitating an attacker? I know it's apples and oranges and one's a handgun caliber and one's a rifle...
I would like to start using my AR15 carbine Colt LE6920 for home defense. I don't enjoy practicing with my shotgun and in a high pressure situation I'd much prefer having 30 rounds semi auto with light recoil.
What's the best 5.56/.223 load for home defense that meets FBI standards? As in...
