    Recommend a bolt-action .22lr

Also, if possible, I would like one that can be safely dry-fired. I don't know if that's too much to ask for a rimfire rifle, but I consider dry fire practice pretty important

    Recommend a bolt-action .22lr

I'm looking to pick up a decent bolt-action .22 in the future. I have a few criteria: - cheap-ish (not looking to pick up a CZ or anything, looking more in the $200 price range) - aftermarket aperture sights available - 10 round magazines available - comes with swivel studs to mount...

    Making new guns look aged?

I'm more concerned with making a gun that looks "unique," than trying to make a newer gun pass for an antique; more "steampunk" than historically-accurate Wild West, per se. I will do some Googling on the guitar stuff and see what comes up, I was just surprised when my internet searches didn't...

    Making new guns look aged?

Has anyone had any experience with making new guns look older? For example, making "wild west" guns like single-action revolvers or leverguns look more cosmetically old (without affecting functioning)? Just curious! Thanks in advance.

Fixing up and old Remington 500-series?

So, I recently inherited a Remington 511 Scoremaster from my father. The rifling in the bore is still intact, and seems to be in perfect condition after the patches I ran through the bore stopped coming out green. However, the bolt sticks during the up/down portion of the bolt's travel, like...

    Fundamentals of rifle marksmanship?

Thanks for the responses so faR! Yes, I definitely plan on getting tech sights for the 10/22. Looking down the stock sights, I can already tell they are awful, hard to figure out what sight picture they were going for, and the front post just isn't visible enough. If anyone has any other book...

    Fundamentals of rifle marksmanship?

I've been doing some light Googling, and I've found plenty of how-to's regarding shooting EQUIPMENT (rifles, scopes, etc.), but not very many articles or web pages on actual shooting technique (breathing, trigger control, shooting stances, etc.) Are there any good web pages or books that can...

Red dot sight - Mk II 22/45

I am trying to figure out how to mount a red dot sight on my stock mk II 22/45. Done a bit of googling, and it looks like I just need to have it drilled and tapped to put a mount on top - how much does that generally cost, and is there an alternative mount that replaces the rear sight instead...

RWS 34 spring air rifle w/scope?

So, I've managed to get my hands on a RWS 34 as a birthday present. It comes with a two-piece (I believe) scope mount and a 4x scope. My question is...are the scope and mount that comes with this decent? Or should I be looking for a better scope/mount right off the bat? Thanks in advance...

    Out-of-spec barrel-cylinder gap on a new S&W

So, I gave Smith & Wesson a call after I got home today, told them that the barrel-cylinder gap on my 442 was out of spec, gave them my name and address, and a shipping label is on its way to my house. So far, so good...I've been told be a few folks that Smith & Wesson has good customer service...

    Out-of-spec barrel-cylinder gap on a new S&W

So, I bought a new Smith & Wesson 442 from a gun show today for $389 plus tax (a pretty good price, I think). I didn't bother to check barrel-cylinder gap with my feeler gauges because it was brand new in box and I assumed it would be in spec. However, when I got home, I measured it out of sheer...

Lifespan of a modern pocket pistol?

Hmm, perhaps I should clarify: I'm talking about stuff like the Bersa series, Kel-tec 9mms, Kahr PM9 and P9, etc. I don't much care about the durability of pistols like the Seecamp, which probably wouldn't get shot more than 5,000 rounds in any given lifetime. I don't think I'd ever carry a...

Lifespan of a modern pocket pistol?

So, I'm just curious...which pocket pistols are the most durable? I've heard from various sources that guns like Kel-tec and Bersa tend to beat themselves to death by 10,000 or 12,000 rounds. Is this true? Are there any more durable pocket pistols out there?

    Anyone torture-tested subcompacts?

Exactly! A shortened slide length means reduced cycling time, making the gun more finicky and sensitive to certain types of ammunition; in other words, one would expect a longer gun to be more reliable - look at short-barreled 1911s, for example (no offense to those who have working 3" 1911s).

    Anyone torture-tested subcompacts?

I'm not passing judgment over whether or not they should be tested, just if they have. I think it'd be interesting to see how they would hold up; I mean, I don't really expect having to shoot a Glock 26 caked in mud and filled with sand, but it still interests me!

    Anyone torture-tested subcompacts?

So, I've seen various torture tests for pistols, such as the Glock 17. I was wondering, has anyone bothered to 'torture' any subcompact pistols? Perhaps the baby Glocks, Springfield XDsc or HK P2000sk? How do you think the chopped-down versions would hold up?

    Smith Wesson 908 problems

Okay, so I own a Smith & Wesson 908. I went to clean it this morning, and somehow when I was putting the slide back on, I managed to mess it up such that the guide rod was sticking out too far from the end, but I couldn't get the slide back off to fix it (it was hung up on something). So...

    All-steel snub for pocket carry?

This thread is making me rethink my choice in snubbies! To be honest, the gun that appeals to me most is a stainless model 36 or 60 with a hammer, the original S&W thin grips, and maybe a T-grip as well. Just so classy!

    All-steel snub for pocket carry?

OH25Shooter - any problems with snagging on the draw? The only reason I wasn't considering a regular-style revolver like a 36 or a 60 is because of snagging - to be honest, I like the looks of the hammer better than the shrouded or humpback varieties.

    All-steel snub for pocket carry?

Guess I should ask...what is the recoil like for .38 +p out of something like a 642?
