    870, "ejector pin" question

Not sure if I'm calling this part correctly, but I'm referring to that little pin on the bolt, with a small hook, which ejects the shell, when you rack the pump backwards. Basically, I noticed it can move up and down a little. Nothing accessive, but it is not rock solid. Is it supposed to be...

LATE MODEL Springfield Mil-spec vs. Colt 1991 vs. Colt 70s

Thanks for the replies! I'm not too good with acronyms, what is "ILS MSH" ?

    a new handgun

Posting what you already have might be a good idea. If it's your first handgun, than what is the main reason you want to get it?

LATE MODEL Springfield Mil-spec vs. Colt 1991 vs. Colt 70s

I know there are plenty of threads about these 1911s, but manufacturers seem to make different changes to their guns with time. I know there are a lot off people who hate Springfields because they had experince with the ones the were made in Brazil. I also heard that Colts used to have plastic...

A few "how to shoot" questions.

Thanks for your help guys. It does seem like I slide the buttplate up the chest. Extending my arms a little seem to solve this problem, but it feels a little odd moving the gun that far away from the body. (and the stock is fitted properly to my arm length)

A few "how to shoot" questions.

I've been practicing with my pump action shotgun for a week or two already, got a few questions. 1) Is it a good idea to pull the fore end backwards (lightly) while shooting, so that as soon as the slide gets released, the fore end will immediately start moving backward? Or is it better to wait...

    A few questions/concerns about my 870P

Great, thanks for your help guys! Too bad that the finish is no longer as good as it used to be. :(

    Question...

The weight isn't a big problem, in my opinion. You are already carrying a gun, which is heavy by default. lol Plus, you feel less recoil. The advantages of single shot is that is is easier to operate (operator educed malfunctions are less likely) and it is shorter, given the same barrel length...

    A few questions/concerns about my 870P

Nope, not rested. I tried to shoot resting the elbow of the weak hand, but it does the same thing.

    Question...

What prevents you from putting one extra round in the magazine after each trigger pull? Same thing as a single shot, but you also got a few extra rounds in case you don't have time to load one more round in the gun.

    A few questions/concerns about my 870P

Well as the title says, got a few questions: 1. Parkerized finish does not seem to be perfectly covering all parts of the gun. There are a few tiny places here and there where you can see the metal. Is that normal? Also, the welds appear yellowish. 2. The gun shoots a little high and to...

    Question...

The real question is why use single shot, when you can use pump action? IMO, if it is possible to have an extra 4 - 9 rounds under the barrel, let me have it.

Why a Shotgun for Home Defense?

BTW, I read that #2 WILL penetrate walls, yet it is still not a reliable (again, incapacitation wise) round.

Why a Shotgun for Home Defense?

That's a good point, but still, I think what we need to worry about is whether it can reliably incapacitate a bad guy, not whether it is possible to incapacitate him.

    Question...

To me it's even simpler: Use what ever you can reach quickly. There is no gun that is more expensive than your life. ;)

    Question...

The last thing I would worry about in that setuation is how to get the gun back.

Why a Shotgun for Home Defense?

I personally favor a shotgun, however, a shotgun has one big disadvantage that makes me keep pondering whether I should switch to a handgun or a rifle: overpenetration. Yes, it's true, buckshot is a much weaker penetrator than a larger metal jacketed bullet. However, each one of the 9 8.3mm...

    Question about "pump action"

hm, that's interesting... So how come it is not recommended to keep a pistol magazine loaded all the time? I thought that it would weaken the mag spring, and that the same should apply to the hammer spring in a pump action shotgun. Also, it's a fact that alder cars sit lower above the ground...
