Wood adhesive for clean, grain cracks?

Brownell's Acraglas gel. Have fixed many a crack, even wrist cracks, with zero failures. Some you can no longer tell where the crack was.

    Does Solvent Soaking Help?

Sorry, I missed the reference to chemicals. I use pure ammonia. Works great, especially on surplus rifles. :)

    Does Solvent Soaking Help?

One can make their own "foul-out" with a welding rod, a couple of small rubber spacers, 2 "D" batteries and some wire and alligator clips. It's on the web somewhere.

    Books worth reading

So many! If it's gun stories and info, try Carmichael's "The Modern Rifle." If it's war stories, try "With the Old Breed" by Sledge, "Band of Brothers" by Ambrose, "Chickenhawk" by Mason, or "Helmet for my Pillow" by Leckie. "Goodbye Darkness" by Manchester. "Enemy at the Gates" by Craig...

Light vs Heavy, pros and cons

Depends upon the gun/purpose/operator, I'm thinking. One of the great advantages to reloading is the ability to tailor a load to an individual weapon to maximize accuracy with a bullet type and weight and speed that will nicely fit the job at hand. And...it's got to feel good to the operator...

    Accurate milsurp pistol

Good experiences- Luger, Mauser HsC, P38, 1917 S&W, Ballester Molina (yup, even though it was plump wore out), 1911, Browning HP (Inglis). Bad included S&W Victory, Enfield #2, 1911. Depends upon the bore, the ammo, etc. There are some nice fairly inexpensive P38s and Ballester Molinas out...

    RCBS Customer service feedback

They are fantastic. After 35 years of reloading, almost all my equipment has evolved into RCBS and Dillon. Reason- customer service, and that old-fashioned "we'll stand behind it" attitude. Can't say the same about Lyman.

    Hodgdon H4895 in .223

OK, I'll step up....25.0 grains under a 55-grain bullet makes a nice plinker. Have shot thousands of them without a problem, just make sure you trim your brass.

    Blow Up A Gun... Experience?

C96 Out-of-battery Had a Mauser C96 go off out of battery- factory ammo, so I'm thinking the breech face made contact with a case that had popped up too far. Short version- bullet hit me in the sternum after bouncing off the face of feedramp/barrel. Bruise only. The case entered my forehead at...

    Never had a kaboom

Me neither 35 years, have not shot a factory round in probably 15 years. I had a partial case separation once in a .303 British, but they're known for generous headspace. Had an accident once, where a 9mm went off out of battery- casing went into the hairline and skidded back along my skull to...

How does shoulder angle affect cartridge performance?

Ok, the correct answer to that question for me is "I don't know." BUT- if I were going to research it, I'd take a look at the wildcats that were formed by a differing shoulder angle from standard calibers. I know that .30-06, .25-06 and .270s have had their shoulders angled up or down from...

.40 cal Brass out of 44 Mag

Wow. Now I have seen everything (someone will prove me wrong tomorrow) You know, just had a conversation with a neighbor. His comment was that there were those in government who would ban the sale of ammunition and components to effect the same result as a ban on guns. I told him that he had...

SilentScream hit it on the nose, OAL is the key. Measure OAL AFTER case resizing but before belling.

Loading 44 mag on dillon square deal?

I do. I am very lazy...have SDB's set up in 45ACP, 9MM, 38 special/357 and 44 mag. so I don't have to change them out. Never a problem, I use 2400 and both cast and jacketed bullets. I once actually broke a SDB but it was on 9 MMs. Go figure...had a new press pretty quick, they certainly...

Does new primed brass need to be resized?

Easier to do it now than put up with the embarrassment of cartridges that won't chamber later. Don't ask me how I know that.

Two 3-round bursts at the range today. Please help me diagnose!

I had the same problem a few years back, which was puzzling because it tended to happen with different kinds of ammo...turned out it was a broken pin in the trigger group.

    Small based dies for .223?

....and I definitely needed and bought small-base dies for my target Colt, which has a chamber that wouldn't feed reloads from a regular die set. hentown is correct- depends on your experience.

    Uh-oh...need assistance, please...

Thirty years of reloading experience (including making every mistake known to man!) says that whatever you do, WEAR SAFETY GLASSES WHEN RELOADING! Stay safe.

tumbling loaded rifle bullets without damaging bullets

I don't want to start a war here, as the advisability of tumbling loaded rounds has been debated as hotly as 5.56 vs. .223, etc. I see no problem tumbling fairly new factory ammo or recent reloads. Tumbling surplus ammo, though, can cause problems- if you have ever opened up a .303 and seen the...
