You may want to consider something like a "muzzle projector sleeve" from Damage Industries

which screws onto a muzzle brake like this...
Yes, so you know every 870 receiver production and finishing run. Sure I believe that . . .
There are rougher receiver internals (like significantly sharper edges) on Express guns. Almost anyone can see this when they look closely.

For one thing, the receivers of some 870s (not the Express receivers) are vibra-honed to smooth out sharp edges and rough spots before finishing. If you compare the internals of the receivers and look very closely, you can see this.

There are a LOT of people who cleaned their 870's (including the chambers) before shooting them and still had these same problems.

I don't think the problem is simply the...
It's a very common problem. Most people will say it's simply a rough chamber. But I'm not so sure that's the cause. Here's another thing to consider:

That's impressive. Great pic too.
Nick Leghorn and "The Truth About Guns" just did a detailed review of a PWS piston AR. It did really well:

MistWolf, the first part of what you quoted was in response to what ugaarguy wrote, not you.
You bring up an interesting point about the heat. I actually don't know how much heat is dumped into the receiver area with DI guns. Maybe it's not nearly as much as most people think.

It looks like Primary Weapons Systems just came out with a new video. It seems like a good overview of their piston system rifles.

Edited to add, here is a link to the part in the video which shows a good cutaway of how their piston system...
Two things:
1)
2) Actually, 100% of the gases (which is used to cycle the gun/bolt) ARE directed into the upper receiver. Some of that gas makes it out the exhaust ports in the carrier. But technically, that gas still went into the upper receiver (which houses the bolt carrier and gas...
MistWolf, I am going to strongly but respectfully disagree with you.
* First, let's agree that you won't bust on me for using the "DI" and "piston" terminology, and I won't bust on you for using the term "AR" when you are not talking about Armalite rifles . . .
With the direct...
I'm confused about how many books (2 or 3?) we are talking about in this thread.
mec, if they picked up on "the second book" (as you put it), what is the first book (with the "glaring edit failures")? Is that the one you linked to in the first post or is it a different one?
The book...
It's ironic that the posters picking on people for their use of the words "piston" and "DI", have been referring to these guns as "ARs." In this context, "AR" is a term referring to an AR-15, which is a gun made only by Armalite (or Colt because they licensed the name) . . .
But back on...

I think the best ones are made by Primary Weapons Systems (PWS). They are very high quality. You can buy the just the upper/barrel assembly and mount it on your existing AR lower (if you have one).
There was a similar thread on a different forum recently. Some people don't know about...
You can use George & Roy's primer sealant. People say you can also use it around the case mouth without any issues.
The product reviews look good too:

To answer the original poster's question, I recently heard that Ruger doesn't like to fix firearms. This is from someone I know and trust who has worked in a gunstore fulltime for at least the last 10 years. For what it's worth, this was in the context of Ruger Mark II guns. I'm not sure if...
If it's an issue of slide velocity, I assume the problem is less likely to happen with 180gr ammo than the lighter and snappier ammo (165gr and lower)?
Can anyone provide information on the type of ammo where problems have been noticed?
Thanks.

One thing I have seen is the tip of a live round in the magazine putting pressure on the slide lock lever. This would cause the slide to lock back, and appear to be a typical fail to chamber.
This happens when with the 2nd to top live round moves forward in the magazine, as the top round is...
