    Interview or Imagination?

Follow John Farnam's suggestion -- in a polite, but very firm, voice say, "I'm sorry, sir, I can't help you." This can be accompanied (augmented) by the universal "arm extended toward stranger with palm facing outward" gesture. This works irrespective of the request (money, cigarette...

Why would one choose 8 pellet 00 over 9 pellet?

In addition to this: Most Winchester 9 pellet 00 loads have an advertised muzzle velocity of 1325 ft/sec. Most Winchester 8 pellet 00 loads that I've seen have an advertised muzzle velocity of 1145 ft/sec. They achieve their "reduced recoil," not just through of the reduced payload, but...

A good used Beretta 391 is an excellent choice for your anticipated useage.

How often civilians and police hit bystanders

    1. Sorry to have disagreed with a Moderator. Thanks for the threat.. 2. Source: http://www.ncjrs.gov/app/publications/Abstract.aspx?id=203152 Here's a link to the full article: http://www.policeone.com/writers/columnists/PoliceMagazine/articles/77165/ "Vast majority of shots are...

How often civilians and police hit bystanders

    1. The previous poster is correct. Cops are civilians in every legal sense of the word. 2. The 11% number isn't too awfully unbelieveable when you compare it to the documented "miss rate" of cops ................... which has held steady at 81% for the past five years.

Real Life Security Situation- Help needed

If you are concerned about theft of equipment, look into the inexpensive (~$300) GPS tracking devices. Attach one with magnets (or whatever else works) to any major piece of equipment. You can track the unit's location on line (monthly access fee is usually $20-30).

New Member Transitioning from Hip to Concealed Carry

I wouldn't jump too quickly to an IWB holster ............. at least not until you've tried a good OWB with a good gun belt. Cheap OWB (Fobus, Uncle Mike, et al) usually do a poor job of holding the weapon snugly against your body. Same thing happens with flimsy, cheap belts. Try a Comp-Tac...

    Early Production Mini-14

A friend is considering an early production Ruger Mini-14 (.223) that he found on an auction site. I am not very familiar with Ruger products, but seem to recall comments in the past about the early models being pretty inaccurate ......soemthing about thin barrels that flex when they get...

How much training have you had?

...a number of handgun self defense excellent training sources available. Some require that you travel to their facility. Others travel around the country. Some offer both options. Here are few examples (there are many other good ones): * Gunsite * Tactical Response * Thunder Ranch * Rangemaster

Is There Anyone Here Who DOESN'T carry?

Mr. Blaze: I am not in any way belittling your faith. I am a Christian, and pray every day that God will keep me and my family safe. But I carry virtually everywhere I go ......unless it is a place where CCW is prohibited. I believe that I have an obligation to "do my part" to protect...

    Dressing for Concealed Carry

...Dean: Some really good advice has been posted, if you can weed out the silly "I do this, so you should too" stuff. 1911 covered most of it: * Get a good belt. Wilderness if you like nylon, the Beltman if you want leather. Ignore the folks that tell you it doesn't matter. wearing...

Over 40 and still wearing jeans: Restaurants

I'm sorry. I'm a redneck, and am not too smart. Maybe the OP can clarify/explain. Is SM saying that carrying a concealed weapon would place him on some continual high alert status ("keyed up") ? Is he saying one should not CCW so that one can relax ? Is he saying that no handgun is...

    Recommend Training Near Houston?

BassPlayer: Someone mentioned John Farnam. He is very good, especially on mindset, situational awareness, etc. I thoroughly enjoyed my training with him, and am glad I did. But I believe you can do better for a "first class." Look up Tactical Response (www.tacticalresponse.com) or...

This is for everybody who continues to insist that anyone in their home is a threat

Jeff: Your comments are usually well thought out....but not this time. It smacks a wee bit of the old "Why didn't you just shoot the gun out of his hand instead of mortally wounding him?" Both (turning on lights and trying to shoot a gun out of an attacker's hand) place the GG in jeopardy...

    Recommend a Pepper Spray?

Actually I was trying to keep it simple. But if you are inclined to do your own calculations, here's some info from Paul Gomez' primer on OC: 'How Hot is Hot?' has to be the eternal question and subject of a surprising amount of bad information in regards to pepper spray. There are several...

    Recommend a Pepper Spray?

I'd be very leery of any OC manufacturer who doesn't list product info (such as SHU) for its pepper spray. Do a search here, or at Glock Talk, or at The firing Line, or anywhere else, and you'll get an overwhelming indication that Fox Labs (5.3 Million SCU) is hard to beat.

So. Almost got into a fight today.

This is an amazing thread: 1. Poster requests advice on how he could have better handled a confrontation. 2. Members provide advice. 3. OP doesn't like advice. Argues interminably. 4. Advice continues. 5. OP says members' comments no longer qualify as "advice," but rather are...

    .22LR self defence

Several comments like these have been posted in this thread. The fallacy is that the posters are, in all likelihood, quite rational people........unlike the attacker who happens to be high on drugs or is going through withdrawal symptoms while frantically seeks his next fix. If you are going...

    .22LR self defence

Even if you believe the Evan Marshall statistics, 90-95% is a lot better than 35-40%. Plus, there have been a lot of improvements in service caliber ammo (such as DPX and Ranger T) since the Sanow & Marshall publication.
