5.56 55 grain FMJ BT Go To Load

26.5 grains of BL-C(2) for me. It seems to work well enough in my AR.

What's the attraction to cheap rifles

I have a Ruger American in 308 Win. When I got it I threw the stock away and dropped it in a Boyd's stock. It's a nice shooting rifle now. The trigger is decent. The action has smoothed out with use. The barrel heats up fast but also cools down fast. I hated the original Ruger magazines that...

    Taurus 357

I have a Taurus model 66 with a 4" barrel. It shoots nice, seems plenty accurate and has been reliable for me. When I use 38 special ammo in it, it's very soft. Full boat 357 magnum could get uncomfortable after 20 rounds or so.

Is anyone else waiting along time for something ordered?

Had to return a Wilson Combat 45acp barrel for exchange back in mid-November. Wilson Combat has confirmed a replacement barrel will be going out, but they are backordered and have no idea when they will have them. As long as I have it by spring it'll be all good.

    Gun cleaning, how often?

22lr rifles - Annually. Even then I try not to scrub the bore too hard. They group better slightly fouled. Bolt action rifle - The action is cleaned after every range trip. The bore gets cleaned when the groups start to open up. AR rifle - Thorough scrubbing after every range trip. Revolver -...

Mixed Headstamps & NATO in Winchester White Box 9mm

Those are most likely reloads. As in I am 99% sure those are reloads. How they ended up in a new Winchester box is a mystery. Hope the store owner can help you get to the bottom of it. Every box of Winchester white box I've purchased, the rounds were loose in the box. There was no fancy foam...

    August Rimfire Match

Alright, another 50 yd challenge. I'm in again. Should be fun. This is a good excuse to buy another brick of ammo.

    Independence Month Rimfire Match

I did thoroughly enjoy shooting the 10/22 at 50 yards. With some regular practice at that distance I could thrill and amaze my shooting pals :)

    Independence Month Rimfire Match

Thank you for the kind words. I shot 40 rounds yesterday. 20 to tune up and sight in, 10 at the first attempt and then the one I entered. After that I was very mentally fatigued, so I went home. It is a lot of work to shoot a lightweight rifle like the 10/22 at 50 yards. I could have used...

    Independence Month Rimfire Match

Here's my entry for 50 yd, iron sights division. I think it scored 80. I can tell that I haven't shot rimfire seriously in awhile. Been concentrating more on skeet this summer. It was fun and some guys couldn't believe I was shooting the 10/22 from 50 yards with iron sights. I have to admit...

    new skeet shooter

Excellent. Skeet is great practice. Those targets are moving fast and if the wind comes up they start to dance around in the air. Of all the shooting sports I think skeet and sporting clays are my favorite. After having a look at a Remington 1100 Tactical model, I think it might be easier...

    Independence Month Rimfire Match

I made a pdf version of the 50 yard target that's already sized for one 8-1/2 x 11 piece of paper if anyone wants it. Just shoot me an e-mail and I will send it to you. Oh, and I think I finally have my front sight locked down so it won't move and I'm in for the July shoot. Looks like fun...

    April Fools Rimfire Match:

Yep, those would be it. Much nicer than the stock Ruger sights.

    April Fools Rimfire Match:

I might jump in on this one. Put a set of Tech Sights on my 10/22 over the winter, went out today and re-shot some of the targets from last year's matches, and wow, what a difference. I also removed the barrel band. My groups have tightened up. Now it's time to put it to the test.

Mossberg 930 SPX review, 100 shell first outing range report

The cleaning should solve your cycling issues. The 930 (similar to most new guns) comes coated in some sort of shipping grease. It needs to be cleaned before shooting, or the gun will most likely malfunction.

    Handgun New Years Resolutions.

Buy my very first pistol (I'm a long gun guy) and learn how to use it.

2009 New Years Eve Rimfire Match

I'd be all for extending this match into January. As to whether I can get out to shoot it still remains to be seen. As long as someone breaks a trail back to the range with a snowmobile or a 4x4, I can walk to it.

    Browning Gold

I've owned a Browning Gold for about 10 years now. I have the sporting clays edition which has a different piston than the others. It will reliably cycle lighter loads. I've had no trouble with reduced recoil 7/8 oz loads. I've also had no trouble in colder weather. It just keeps chugging...

2009 New Years Eve Rimfire Match

Awesome contest. I'll have some time to shoot after Christmas if the weather isn't too bad.

    November 2009 Rimfire Match:

Looks like fun but I am going to have to sit this month out. Gonna be traveling too much.
