how much to FL Sizing increase .223 brass length

It depends on your die and your brass. The expander ball inside the die is usually what stretches the brass, and if you've got thick military brass you may be pulling on that a bit more than normal. Try putting just a smidge of lube on the inside of the case neck and see if that changes things...

    Recomended Gunsmiths?

I wound up going with GA Precision after all. The quoted lead time was for a fully built rifle, but I only need a barreled action. Leads for that were 4-6 months. I asked about the long lead times and they said that they are just that busy. They have added several new smiths over the last year...

    Recomended Gunsmiths?

I'm finally ready to drop the coin on a custom rifle. I'm going to go with a Surgeon 591 action paired to a 22" Bartlein or Kreiger Barrel chambered in .260 Remington. I don't need the other goodies to build the rifle (already have top of the line stuff), I just need a barreled action. Now to...

    Lee Factory Crimp Dies

I actually just wrote up an article on my blog about the Lee Factory Crimp Die. I used two seperate ladder tests run through a chrony to see if it really had any effects on reducing extreme spread, the results were pretty impressive.

    Working Up Loads - Methods

I have tried two ladder tests in the past two days. Pictures of the first one's target is on my blog. The entire group is less than 1.25" (15 shots, 100 yards, slow fire. just like your supposed to do.) The second one's target was very similar so I didn't post it. I did however run all the...

    Working Up Loads - Methods

I've heard about those kinds of loads before too. I don't have access to that long a range yet, but will soon. I'll try my current best loads and see how they do.

    40S&W Missouri Bullet 180gr TCFP

I load em on top of 6.3 grains of SR-4756. They work great! Minimal leading and pretty darn accurate. I'll buy more. For seating depth I just used my barrel as a check, then made sure they would fit in the magazine. The magazine was the decider for me for C.O.L.

Q: .223 brass (line on base)

Pic works for me. Looks like just what he said, the bottom of where the sizing die reached. I get a similar line when I full length size some of my .308's that have been shot through my loose Rem Factory Chamber.

    Working Up Loads - Methods

I agree fully with Jim Kirk, 100% I put a post on my results from a ladder test at 100 yards this morning up on my blog. Found some interesting results.

    Working Up Loads - Methods

WNTFW: I have tried the OCW way, and I tried the ladder, both at 100 yards. Total vertical dispersion across somewhere around 3 -4 grains (it's been a while now) was less than 1.2". I couldn't really get a good read on that, especially since most of the groups were around .75". The method I...

    Working Up Loads - Methods

I wrote an article on load development on my website. So far I haven't found a faster way to narrow down loads with access to only a 100 yard range. I've gotten a chrony recently though and plan to go through and re-work my process integrating it. In my head it makes sense that a ladder test is...

What are the signs of overpressure?

I'm not sure what happened here, the instructor at my Basic Pistol Instructor's Course brought this in. Regardless, it's seems to fit in with the catastrophicly overpressure category. Primer was blown, as was the rest of it.

Chronograph results from tumbling loaded rounds.

Very interesting... Good work. I will definitely reference this thread in the future.

    Alternative case cleaning methods

That seems like a lot of work to clean cases, they sure are shiny though woods. I run my tumbler in my townhouse without worries. Through a drier sheet in the media and it sucks up most of the dust (which is what carries the lead).

    RWS vs. Lapua brass

Try comparing the capacity of the two brands. That will have a bigger effect than case weight. The differences in weights could be due to different brass compositions. If the volume is substantially different you will want to reduce loads more than normal during load development.

    .40S&W Brass ???

I don't care much for blazer (range pickup). It splits in the neck after only a few loads while my other brands keep on trucking... Chances are what you were reading before was about "glocked" brass (brass that was bulged from being fired in an unsupported Glock chamber).

    Book Recommendations for Reloading

Best two books for beginners are without a doubt: The ABC's of Reloading- Great beginning tutorial on the what where and why of reloading. Excellent for beginners. DOES NOT INCLUDE LOAD DATA. Lyman 49th Manual- First 150+ pages are about how to reload, after that is load data. Excellent...

Sad day at the charleston gunshow

Hey 1911, I was at that same gun show this morning. Was working the Friends of NRA table right next to Georgia Arms. GA actually had to shut the factory down for a bit not too long ago because they couldn't get primers. I was also on the hunt for SPP's, no luck. I'm thinking I'm going to...
