Can a hot weapon cycle its own action?

I too think it would cook off the magazine prior to the one in the chamber. There's a lot more metal that would take longer to heat to that temp when it's chambered. On another note, I've had a .50 cal round cook off in an open bolt in an XM218 once, we had been firing for a WHILE and the gun...

    Nikon Prostaff vs. Leupold VX-III

It's all been stated already so I'll just help reinforce. The Nikon prostaff is worth every penny they charge for it but it isn't in the same league as the VX3. I've owned Monarchs that will sit side by side with a VX3 all day though and to me (everyone is different) they seem to have slightly...

    30-06 rifle of choice?

I agree with TexasEd. I always go to Gander and touch all the ones I am thinking about since they have them all in stock. Then when I have decided I go back to my own small time mom and pops gun shop and have them order it for me because I like to support my local small town businesses. Of the...

    Storing AR mags loaded

Ditto. The ONLY issue I've ever had with storing a loaded magazine for a long time is on a cheaper metal mag. The lips would become slightly expanded from the pressure of the rounds pushing upward on them. As far as springs, the action of compressing and releasing the spring wears it out...

New AR, think I did pretty good.

Damn I think you did really good. That wasn't the one off Hwy 80 in Dallas was it? I almost stopped on my way out of the city today but I was in a hurry.

    Colt AR Help needed

Off the wall question, have you tried seating it with the bolt locked to the rear? Certain magazines won't seat well loaded on a closed chamber.

AR Grip. What is your favorite?

I've had stock, a Hogue, and now an ergo. I liked the Hogue much better than the ergo but I had to try it just to see. I'm going to pick up a Magpul this weekend and see if I like it better and if not I'm going back to the hogue. Their grip fit my hand perfectly but I need to try other stuff...

700 SPS Varmint - First Range Report

Well if it's show off your stock remington targets, I have one too :), out of the box SPS v .223 with a Nikon Monarch 5-20x44 on top, bipod and bean bag. 5 shots at 100 yards. BH 52gr blue box.

walmart shotgun 100 round value packs

We went shooting clays today (first time for me) and I picked up a Winchester bulk pack on my way there to add to the pile of shells they brought. I went through all 100 of those plus another 80 of another type of winnie cheap stuff without an issue from the OLD 870 I was shooting. The owner of...

What are your goals for the 2009 Deer season?

To try out my new overpowered deer rifle I just HAD to buy because I got such a deal on it. To get a nice healthy animal of either sex to put in the freezer. And of course wishful thinking would be to get a nice buck but with AR going on here, it's not likely at all.

    .223 for deer

I don't think I would use a standard JHP if I were going to use a .223 for deer. I would try the federal fusion 62gr soft tip rounds. I've never shot deer with them but have taken mature boars with single well placed shots.

    Remington 700/7 User Thread

5r, I don't think you need to develope the load further, I think you need to get the proper paperwork and start selling that load :). 6" at 1k is ridiculously impressive.

Uncle Mike, I had to use the .308 for that muffler, she was a tough one :P

    Remington 700/7 User Thread

I have liked my 700's. I am not a huge fan lately because their QC seems to have dropped off a bit BUT they still shoot. This is a box stock 700 SPS V (different scope in this pic) topped with a Nikon Monarch 5-20x44. I don't think it's EVER shot over MOA out to 300 yards using Hornady and Black...

Remington 700 .223 leaving bad brass scratch

Just to let you know you're not alone, I too had the same problem on a similar rifle. I bought a R700 in .223 that was the SPS-V model. I put a Nikon Monarch 5-20x44 on it and was it EVER a shooter. Typically it would shoot .46" groups at 100 yards with BH 52 gr ammo off a bag but I had...
