    Fitting 1911 barrel bushing

Using the adj. reamer I got from Enco, I got the bushing fitted to the barrel. When I check for barrel springing, there is a very little bit, but I don't have a way to get a measurement on it. When I pull the slide back 1/8", the barrel drpos .036" from where it is at lockup, but I have no...

    Fitting 1911 barrel bushing

I am thinking about ordering a Kart EZ Fit barrel to put in the thing, especially since that would be cheaper than trading the gun in on a Springfield. I don't plan on modifying the RIA, I just want to make it more accurate, which it isn't at the moment, and replace anything that breaks. John

    Fitting 1911 barrel bushing

Having a gunsmith turn the barrel down a little isn't really an option since the only local gunsmith that I know of is in poor health and maybe works one day a week. I don't have a lathe, so my only option appears to be reaming out the bushing. If this new bushing doesn't help accuracy, I'm...

    Fitting 1911 barrel bushing

I picked up a cylinder hone from Advance Auto, but it only goes down to 3/4", so only one stone will fit in the bushing. I gave up and ordered an adjustable reamer from ENCO and will figure out how to use it when it gets here. Thanks for all the suggestions John

    Fitting 1911 barrel bushing

Thanks. I'll go get a hone today at lunch. I was thinking that maybe sandpaper on my little finger, but I decided that might not be such a good idea. Thanks again, John

    Fitting 1911 barrel bushing

I got an EGW pre-fit bushing for my RIA 1911, and after some work, the bushing fits in the slide nice and tight. The problem is that the barrel OD is .581 and the bushing ID is .578. How can I fit the bushing to the barrel without goofing anything up? Thanks, John

Want to collect *and* shoot WW2 Rifles

If you really want to collect old surplus stuff, consider getting a C&R license. It will save a lot on transfer fees as well as getting you some pretty good discounts from Midway, Brownells, etc. With a C&R, the prices for the guns you are looking for should run about: Britain: No4 Mk1...

    Where to get Sako parts?

I have been given a Sako L-579 Forrester stripped barreled action in 220 Swift. It is missing the bolt, bolt stop, magazine, floorplate, triggerguard, trigger,.... I know I can get a Timney trigger for it from Brownells, but I don't know where to get the rest of the stuff. Numrich doesnt seem...

Where to get Barnaul 7.62 ammo?

I got my case of Barbual 7.62x39 from Widener's. Their website is www.wideners.com , but the site sucks. If you call them, they can tell you if they have any. Their number is 1-800-615-3006. Hope this helps, John

    Decent Makarov holster?

I have to second the recommendation of HBE Leatherworks. I have one of Eric's IWB Mak holsters and it is just an awesome holster. I like it som much that I am going to order a holster, belt, and mag holder for my new Glock 27 from him soon. Hope this helps, John

    AIM SKSs

I got one of the $109 Yugo SKSs from AIM. It was all matching and finish was 75+%. Just got to go shoot it today, but it is quite accurate with cheap Barnual ammo and has virtually no recoil. It came with a log book, which is pretty neat. Hope this helps, John

With my heavy barrel 223, I got moa or less groups with starting loads. I have more loads worked up for it, but haven't had a chance to test them yet. Hope this helps, John

    Howa rifles any good?

Howa does make some Mauser-type actions, but their most common rifle, the 1500, is a push feeder. I have a heavy barrelled 1500 in 223 that I got unfired from a coworker and absolutely love it. I haven't fired more than 100 rounds through it in the year I have had it and haven't really worked...

    low-end Howa scoped bolt-action package--how good?

I picked a heavy barreled Howa 223 from a coworker last year. The trigger is light and crisp and the rifle will put anything but 50gr Barnes VLCs into an inch or less at 100 yards. This is with no real load development, just my starting loads. 24gr of H322 with a 50gr Vmax goes closer to .75...

    Crooked case necks

I have tried most of what y'all suggested. If I resize with no decap rod, the cases come out nice and straight. If I use the decap rod, whether locked down while centered or left loose, the necks still come out crooked. The cases are lubed with Imperial Sizing wax, with a touch to the mouth...

    Crooked case necks

I am having some trouble with sizing a couple calibers. On both 30-30 and 303 British, the necks are coming out crooked after sizing. I have tried both full length and partial length sizing with both new and once fired cases. It doesn't matter which method or which cases I use. The runout...

    Cartridge stop for Stevens shotgun

Does anybody know where I can find a cartridge stop for a Stevens 520-30? If it matters at all, it is for a trench gun. When the slide is worked, all the shells in the magazine try to feed into the receiver at one time. Thanks, John

Problem with mainspring housing on RIA 1911A1

It sounds like you know about that from experience. I know what you mean. I work on computers for a living, and very little is ever easy. This job wasn't hard at all, just time consuming. [rant on] I called Armscor/RIA this afternoon to tell them about it. Even though I bought the...

Problem with mainspring housing on RIA 1911A1

Last night. I finally got the new MS housing to fit. It involved a lot of quality time with a file, but the new housing's holes line up nicely with the ones in the frame. The true test will be to see what happens when I shoot it some. Hopefully, that will be tonight. I guess my nest...
