1911 Long Slide (6") recoil spring length?

Well, didn't get a chance to go to the range when planned... Hopefully this Friday now. *fingers crossed* In the mean time I was able to call up the manufacturer and talk to someone there. They use a different recoil plug that allows 5" springs to be used. So, I did some research and found STI...

Manual safeties on carry weapons: yes or no?

On a SA/DA or revolver... no... my safety is my finger... If I'm not going to shoot anything then it shouldn't be on the trigger... Like my S&W has no safety... My Beretta 92FS I rarely leave it with the safety on... On SA only pistols like a 1911... yes... I pretty naturally push down on the...

    Bull Barrel 1911?

That would really depend on how the barrel & slide fit... Ever take a 1911 and give it a shake? Each 1911 has it's own rattle... You might also notice that some with bull barrels are rated to fire "45 Super" rounds, as long as you change out the recoil spring. Shipwreck - who makes that pistol...

9mm preferences: blazer brass vs. WWB?

The Winchester 100RD Value Packs are usually a couple bucks cheaper at the local Walmart than if you bought two boxes of Blazer... I usually just buy what is available since 9mm is still somewhat spotty supply (at walmart)... I do reload too so I'm not sweating it... Trying to find a decent...

    357 Magnum vs 45 ACP

Seven months and the thread is still going strong! As others have said, it really depends on your platform preference... Me personally, I usually carry a S&W J-frame w/357's... It's small, dependable, no safety, no wondering if a round is in the chamber... just point and squeeze...

    .22 Pistol Suggestions

Browning Buckmark is a nice pistol. I would choose a Ruger Mk II or Mk III over a buckmark though, usually they are slightly cheaper (it really depends on exact models though). The standard Mark II w/5.5" Target barrel is probably the most common and if you check your local pawn shops and...

    Want to move to Texas

I would think you might be able to find a job with a company in The Woodlands area, then you can live up in Conroe (Montgomery County)... When I worked for Verizon up in Dallas, the office was located up in Coppell (north of the airport)... Was pretty nice not having to drive downtown... ;)...

    What would it be worth?

If you are registered you can view ended auctions on gunbroker. Either do a search and at the top of the listings there is a drop-down to choose "completed auctions". Also available on the "smart search" page.

    What would it be worth?

There are blue books for guns... I don't have any though... I would check gunbroker or auction arms and see what others are selling for...

The GSG-5 goes the way of the dodo

Man, I was thinking of getting a GSG at the gun show this last weekend... I don't really foresee prices jumping too much on them... They are just .22's... I do think it was a bad move on HK's part, unless of course we find out next year there will be the same rifle just re branded with HK's...

1911 Long Slide (6") recoil spring length?

Haven't had a chance to really shoot it yet. Planning on going to the range Friday.... (If I can wait that long!)

1911 Long Slide (6") recoil spring length?

Okay, so I'm just going to assume the spring is meant to be that long just because of the strength... Hopefully tomorrow I'll have enough free time to call the manufacturer just to double check.

1911 Long Slide (6") recoil spring length?

So I was at the local gun show this weekend and an old man was selling some of his collection. One of the guns that caught my eye was a 6" 1911 Stainless... The tag said High Standard, but the frame said Safari Arms... I wasn't going to argue over that point... ;) Anyhow, the gun was a little...

recoil on a full sized Sprinfield 1911a1?

What size frame S&W? I would say the kick from a full size .45 is no more than trying to shoot .38's from a J-Frame S&W... I don't think you would have any issues with it. I'm sure if you go to the range enough, *someone* there has to be shooting a 1911... Just explain to them you are wanting...

Ammo, It's Back!, Or Is It?

Best time to go to Walmart is in the morning since they get their shipments at night and stock at that time too... ;)

    Did I make a mistake for buying a .357Mag?

Most gun ranges have .38 & .357 in stock, you might pay a little of a premium for them though. But as others have suggested, ordering online might be the way to go. Even places on backorder if you place your order you get first come first serve priority. A little OT now... Last time I was at...

Ammo, It's Back!, Or Is It?

Here in Houston the local Gander Mountain has plenty of ammo, albiet way overpriced! Same for most gun ranges & pawn shops... One of the walmart's nearby limits to two boxes of ammo, the other walmart does not. At Walmart they have had plenty of .22 bulk Federals. In the past six months I've...
