FL CCW in New Orleans/Baton Rouge

Stay within the tourist areas in the city proper and you should have no problems. Beware of Armstrong Park unless in groups... there's a project near it. http://www.neworleansonline.com/directory/location.php?locationID=1341 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iberville_Projects Avoid the...

    Yugo M48 or German P1

Check Guns America... search P1. There's a seller, Robertson Trading Post, that has a number of them. I still suggest a P-38. You won't be sorry. I have three and shoot them often.

    Yugo M48 or German P1

Consider a WWII P-38 instead of the P1. The P-38 will appreciate at a greater rate. If you're still set on the M48 and P1, which both are plentiful, I think I'd get the M48 first. I may be wrong but I have a hunch the P1s will be available longer.

    Pregnancy and shooting.

Back in January, 1972 my wife went duck hunting at 8 months pregnant. She handled a 12 Ga. Browning A5 just fine. I like to think it caused our oldest daughter to have hunting and shooting in her blood. At age eight she became my regular hunting companion. She was a great kid and top student...

    Using motor oil on guns.

Guys, I've read this thread and the one that's a sticky and realize there will always be a heated debate over which project is better whether it be gun oils or cereal. If what you're using works for you then stick with it. Every product claims to be the best... that's marketing. Have you ever...

    Home defense handgun

There is a common misconception that a shotgun doesn't have to be aimed... just point and shoot. At home defense distances the pattern will only be a few inches in diameter. That makes for an easy miss if just pointing it in a stressed situation. While a shotgun is great for defense I...

What is the last gun that you bought?

I bought this a year or two ago from a member of another forum and never fired it. I'm going to visit my family in Metairie, LA later this morning and decided to give it to my son-in-law as a birthday gift.

    Home defense handgun

I would suggest a double action revolver in .357. She can always load it with .38s but has the capability for .357s if she ever wants the greater firepower. My wife shoots both semi-autos and revolvers but prefers the revolver for self defense. She has an older Charter Arms stainless 3"...

Would you sell your first gun?

Never! My first gun was a Browning .22 Auto that my parents gave me for Christmas 1959; I was eight. It became my trusty companion on any and all outdoor ventures. My first handgun was a S&W Model 41 that my dad gave me in 1965; age 14. They are still two of my favorite firearms.

Pink Bullets: October Breast Cancer Awareness Month

I ordered some .357 and .44 pink bullets to load for my wife's revolvers. She now carries an older Charter Arms stainless .44 Special Bulldog in her vehicle and also has a S&W M19 4" and a Taurus M85 2". She carries an East German Makarov but .365" bullets aren't offered.

    30 Carbine OAL question

As mentioned earlier the differences in the bullet's ogive can cause different overall lengths. However, the differences you're claiming seem excessive. As suggested, check the seating plug fit. Also, check the seating plug itself that it's screwed in tightly on the stem (if applicable). Another...

Help me set up my new bench..

Here's my reloading set-up. I have added more components and dies since these photos were shot. It's nowhere as neat either. The bench has a 2x4 frame with 3/4" A/C plywood. I laid a sheet of 1/4" unfinished Masonite on top and sealed it with thinned polyurethane varnish. The edges are...

    Severe Barrel Leading

I just measured three bullets and it looks like they're running .0005" to .001" out-of-round. I will be visiting my dad in the New Orleans area for the next week or so. I'll continue this when I return. Thanks to all

    Severe Barrel Leading

blarby, I measured ten cases out of each of the two 50 round .44 Special loads. The case mouths for each load ran from .430" to .432" however, each case was slightly out-of-round by .002" to .004". Some of this may have been from handling but I really don't think so. I have some new...
