Accuracy Tweaking for a 1911 pistol

sunlight behind you, or an overcast day, zero wind or mirage conditions, good physical health, to include being well rested, no undue stresses, (like cold, heat, rain, etc) good ear and eye protection, extreme concentration on the task at hand.

CA,Bay Area teen shoots Mtn Lion, ruled self defense!

should have went for the head shot 1st kid's real lucky he wasn't mauled. Once you wound any animal, it's likely to try to retaliate. some seem to realize when they've been struck a mortal wound, and try to take you to hell with them.

What would the police do during SHTF?

later, cops prosecuted the guys video- taped guarding their shops, etc, too. they'd have been better off to be using .22 CB caps, in (disposable type, later) rifles, from back inside their homes, and just gut shooting the wanna be looters, out of the windows. All windows open, all homes, where...

    Becoming a better marksman

before beginning any journey, it's help ful to know which direction and how far you want to go, ya know. Do you seek field ability for defensive shooting? Not likely, with a bolt action. Do you seek snapshooting skills for the deep woods taking of deer? Possible, given the 30-30. Do you want...

    6.5/6.8 in the military-outcome of .223?

where you been, man? Wej're using hp 223's in Afghanistan and Iraq, right NOW, and nobody gives a crap. Compared to napalm, mines, etc, what's a damned softpoint? Sheesh. At least it doesn't lay around maiming kids 20 years after the war is over, like mines, or create birth defects, like...

    6.5/6.8 in the military-outcome of .223?

u guys just dont want to face reality Since ww2, the troops have always averaged MANY hundreds of shots fired for every hit that they get (and yes, I am talking about rifle rounds, not belt fed included). They THINK that they hit, when they didn't. They think that they got solid hits, when...

    Beretta 21

It's pretty simple to add a speed lever and then carry the M21 cocked and locked. Misfires are nearly always on DA mode. If you still have problems, I'd send it back to Beretta, or I'd fit a small shim of tubing, so as to compress the mainspring about like 1-2 more coils of said spring would do.

    Converting a SA 1911 to 45 Super???

seems like maybe Spld did, at one time, anyway. Why not just do what the .44 mag guys nearly all do? Practice with a .45 ACP type load for 90% of your shoot, and save the hot stuff strictly for taking big game? At the few score rds a year that that entails (to include practicing to control...

    AR piston operation?

well, cause you want mostly GI parts, and you'd like to have a folding stock, and a short barrel, for concealment purposes, and you'd like to keep all the caliber conversion potential, protected iron sights, see thru mounts, drop in ambi safeties, luminous sights, return to zero, QD scope base...

What would the police do during SHTF?

Those scenarios aren't shtf. Those are are just short term, minor inconveniences. Shtf, by definition, means paper assets of all sorts, including currency, is good for nothing but the toilet. Then we will see how many "serve" for free, while their families are at risk of being raped, killed...

If you had to pick ONE defensive shotgun...

I"d just skip it, go with a good M4 and practice a lot more with the ccw pistol. It's a lot more likely to actually BE there when needed, in "normal times". If it's shtf, I don't want to be limited to a shotgun's range, penetration, mag capacity, and so on.

Accuracy Tweaking for a 1911 pistol

do u have a machine rest? If not, you are quite unlikely to be able to tell the difference between a super accurate, 2" at 50 yd 1911, and a "just so-so" one that groups 4" at that distance. Many a series 70 Colt, with a collet bushing would group 5 match swc's into 4" or better at 50...

1911 issue: anybody ever use a brownells kit to crimp a plunger tube?

$2 vise grip from pawn shop. Weld a "cone" shape onto one jaw, dremel grind a groove to match in the other jaw. Have the plungers in the tube when you use this tool to flare the plunger rivets, or you will collapse the tube in on itself.

    6.5/6.8 in the military-outcome of .223?

it's not at all anemic with a good softpoint and please dont give a load about the "genevy convention. The Geneva Protocols said exactly nothing about rifle bullets. the Hague convention did, after ww1, but we never signed it. The Geneva Accords only apply to "signatory nations" in "declared...

The Bears are AWAKE! Need strategy advice.

I'd trade all 3 for a BAR in .300 win mag with luminous night sights, BOSS comp and a couple of spare mags, and I'd aim at the head of any bear within 200 yds who didn't flee at the sight of me. As they used to say about wolves here in the West, shoot, shovel, shut up.

    Some thoughts on stopping power...

180 gr .40's are nothing much. smaller OD, smaller nose cavity, slightly less wt, same low velocity as the typical 185 gr .45 jhp, none of which amounted to a damn, either. 12 ga slugs and 00 blasts have failed to stop guys, too, with nicely centered chest hits. However, it's a 1 on 50 or 1...

    Competitor Self Defense?

Mike Dalton, old time master from the sw Pistol league, which had been Cooper's training ground for learning what he calls the "new method", wrote an article a while back, stating he simply outdrew a BG, when Mike was a uniformed cop. I myself have drawn on men twice. Once was really a...

    How important is the draw?

not a chance. Such men could be making 100k $ a year, having a ball, teaching, writing, making videos. The guy aint even said what sort of timer was used, etc. He's talking thru his hat. repeat hits at about .14 second, yes, with a lot of work. .17 second, without all that much work at all...

    Reflections on Red Dawn

a few thousand .22's, mostly for barter a few hundred rounds of centerfire pistol ammo, but you'd better not need even a dozen such, when everyone is carrying an autorifle of some sort, don't you think? A few hundred rounds of centerfire rifle ammo, stashed here and there. If you are being...

    Some thoughts on stopping power...

that's always a possiblility, but it doesn't sound like it to me. It sounds to me like the guy is BASING his stategy and evaluation on HAVING 5 seconds in which to win, and that's pure hokum.
