    My first 1911!

Range report: I took it out to my range today, sent 150 rounds downrange. The Taurus 1911 took everything I threw at it, no failures at all. I did slow fire, rapid fire, controlled-pairs, double-taps, etc. Both the gun and magazines worked perfectly. First 50 were independence 230gr FMJ...

    My first 1911!

BTW, Taurus has a deal going on right now, where you buy a new Taurus gun during 2007, and you get a 1 year NRA membership for free. So my gun ended up being $465, not too shabby.

    My first 1911!

Heh, this is my 12th firearm overall, and 3rd for this year. Hard to believe it took me this long to finally own a 1911.

    My first 1911!

How practical would this gun be for IPSC-style competition? Should anything be replaced to make it a better competition gun?

    My first 1911!

I don't suppose I can get ivory grips anywhere? Patton would be proud.

    My first 1911!

Yeah, i'm not a big fan of those grips either. I need to find a hex key that fits the grip screws, then standard flathead screws to replace those. Don't want to risk stripping the hex screw head. What's a good place online to shop for 1911 parts?

    My first 1911!

First thing I did was take it home and disassemble it. It was also the first heart attack I had. I was in the process of re-assembling it when the slide went back and JAMMED. The slide was completely back, resting on top of the hammer, but the barrel was somehow stuck way forward, about...

    My first 1911!

I just picked up a Taurus PT 1911 on sale for $500! I figured that given the recent price increase that it's probably the best deal I can hope for. Haven't taken it to the range yet, but it sure is fun to fondle er... practice room clearing. Has anybody else got one of these? What should I...

    What if?

Any comments or critique would be greatly appreciated. (Other than "It's too soon" or "stop politicizing it", because that's not what I'm looking for)

    What if?

Answers to "What If" I asked in my last post, "What if someone had been armed?". Today, I'll give you some answers. ____________________________________________________________ How about the last time there was a school shooting in VA? So two students had the nerve and the ability to do...

    What if?

A two-part article, comments wanted and welcome. ___________________________________________________ What If? You've probably heard about the VT shooting by now: A horrible tragedy, in its own right. However, it's even worse in light of this: It won't be long before both sides of the...

    Posters to address VT shooting

Based on an article I wrote on the shooting, I'd put this question over a picture of frightened, huddling, students:

Movie: The Shooter - Movie for gun nuts.

I actually wouldn't be very surprised if this happened. I heard that they had him trained at FrontSight or another similar place - and if that won't make you a gun nut, I don't know what will. I remember reading similar things about Tom Cruise after he went through training for Collateral.

Movie: The Shooter - Movie for gun nuts.

what makes the whole movie difficult for me is that I like Mark Wahlberg as an actor. I enjoyed The Big Hit, Three Kings, Rock Star, The Italian Job, The Departed. That made it all the more painful to see Shooter. I don't have any particular beef with his actual performance in Shooter...

Movie: The Shooter - Movie for gun nuts.

Shooter misses the mark Just got back from seeing Shooter tonight. I have to admit: I'm a bit pissed. I don't know if you all saw the same movie I did. I'm going to pull kind of a jerk move right now. I'll just have to say it: The book was much better. No, wait: the book was...

    Cop's 1911 vs. MRI Machine

Here's the real interesting question: Was the bullet's trajectory affected by the magnet? I propose we find an MRI machine a shoot a couple hundred rounds through the center of it.

First Gun: Ruger Single Six(pic warning)

I just picked up one myself yesterday - unfortunately, they didn't have a 6.5" barrel in stock, so I got the stainless 5.5" one. A Cincy gun store was having a Ruger weekend sale, so I walked out of there with the single six and a 10/22 for $600. As far as dry-firing, you don't need to...

    CCW Calculator

Hey guys, it's me who wrote the program, and no, I didn't put any spyware in there :) I got that CCW data off of packing.org a few months back, no guarantees if it's still valid.

Can I Carry? CCW coverage calculator

"May" doesn't have the same ring to it. Anyway, it's better alliteration with "Can" :)
