Most accurate brand out of the box

I have seen several different types of Savages and they aren't as accurate as everyone claims. Why isn't Thompson Center on the list? Ruger and Winchester are? C'mon! I have never fired a Sako, but I am sure they are very accurate, they are the only company with a 5 SHOT MOA guarantee.

    AIM vz24

I got one from AIM, Romanian rifle, Russian capture. Beautiful stripes in the wood, bluing metal in great shape, strong rifling, slight pitting in the bore, not bad. Sitting on the ground firing off hand I can make 3" groups with my handloads. Some accuracy problems with the VZ24's come from the...

how much expansion is too much

you're right, the actual "case head" expansion is negligible. where I was noticing the slight bulge was about .215" up from the extractor groove. I only noticed it in about 8 of 15 cases.

how much expansion is too much

it is 6.5x55 SE and 140gr SPBT 3.050" oal and 43.3 gr RE-22. Well within the limits of the cartridge. This only happens with about 50% of the cases.

    bad experience with Winchester ammo

I just think Winchester makes crappy brass. I use new Winchester brass for my 6.5x55 and the lengths of the cases were quite varied, in 9 of 50 pieces of brass the primer flash hole still was filled with brass. On the contrary, I recently resized 50 pieces of Remington brass. only 5 of those...

how much expansion is too much

I have been getting about .003" expansion around the case head area from .472 to .475 after firing a cartridge, is this too much? the cases tend to be harder to reload as they go from first fired to last and the primers start to flatten out, not completely though and no cratering. This is with...

    bad experience with Winchester ammo

thanks, I've heard of what you said. It is strange though, I never had that problem with actual Sellier and Bellot ammo. I wonder if they do it to Winchester on purpose. I have used PP, not happy with my 7.5x55 brass, not very happy with my bulk Winchester brass either. Wish I could say I'm...

    bad experience with Winchester ammo

I was at the range today testing my handloads. I ran out and wanted to use up some factory Winchester 6.5x55. The case necks on 5 different cartridges split vertically from where the neck meets the shoulder running .125" up the neck. Any one ever had this happen? No problems with my handloads...

What is wrong with rifles today?

Duh, know something before you post your resposnse. TC is owned by Smith and Wesson, an American company. Remington, Bushmaster, DPMS, Marlin, N.E.F.(now closed), and probably several others I forgot to list are owned by Cerberus Capital Management, which is HQ'd in NYC, but is controlled by...

What is wrong with rifles today?

Ruger's are just a name people like, they've never really made any great rifle. Remington is owned by foreign investor's that have brought the company down. If you want a decent american made rifle, try Thompson center.

    Lee classic cast press

I was considering buying a lee classic cast press (say that three times fast) I had intended on purchasing a Redding Boss or Big boss press, then I heard the Lee cast press might actually be better. Any suggestions or thoughts on the subject? Also, anybody using RCBS 7.62x54R dies? I hate Lee...

    Don't buy K31's...

I paid $200 for mine, with 100 rds gp11. The bore is excellent, bluing about 85%. stock very good except for one spot where it got beat up by someone boot cleats. People have to just refuse to pay stupid prices for things. Avoid those ridiculous auction sites.

Bergara and factory TC Encore Barrels

Try an adjustable or locking hingepin. The standard one moves everytime you fire a round. I think the adjustable pin is like $15 on Midwayusa, it's the best accessory for improving the accuracy of the Encore. It should be a standard feature though.

    rem 700 sps-v .243 issues

next time buy a Weatherby, Savage, or Thompson Center. Tikka makes a good rifle. People got to start letting Remington know they have to improve their quality and stop relying on name brand recognition.

Bergara and factory TC Encore Barrels

I just wanted to give people and honest opinion on the quality of TC and Bergara barrels for the Encore. I really love my Encore, it looks great, I love the stock design, and the ability to get barrels chambered for cartridges other manufacturer's don't have the guts to produce. People often...

5.56 nato in a HR single shot

do not try and fire 5.56 in it, the chamber dimensions are different and can cause catastrophic malfunctions if you mix up the two cartridges
  18. L

Can the Savage Edge .223 safely fire 5.56?

the answer is a resounding NO! 5.56 is loaded to higher pressures than .223 and the throat a bolt action .223 chamber is cut differently than a AR or mini-14's. So firing a 5.56 in a bolt action would cause an increase in pressure in a case that already has higher pressure and either damage your...

Ordering my first press and Dies, few questions

don't buy the Deluxe, you have a semi auto so you need to full length resize and crimp. The crimp is for safety, if a cartridge got jamed while chambering and the bullet got pushed back into the case, that could increase pressures to dangerous levels. Get a good scale not a LEE, and a good dial...

What scope for my Predator Pursuit?

The Millet that's on sale at Midway USA right now http://www.midwayusa.com/viewProduct/?productNumber=740823 you definitely want a side focus adjustment though I'd use those Burris X-tra high tactical rings too
