    +P ammo in a Smith Model 439

Is +P in an '87 made Model 439 OK ? Thinking about buying S&B from Cabela's described as: Military-production 115-grain FMJ ammunition Act now to take advantage of these red-hot prices on factory-overrun, military-production ammo. This top-quality 115-grain FMJ 9mm ammunition comes packed...

    Smith Model 439 FTE

Recently bought used M439 (made in '87 - has long extractor and ambi safety) - I cleaned it pre-shooting. Shot it first time with daughter and son-in-law. I shot 8 rounds, they each shot about 42 rounds - all ammo was WIN white box. We used an original S&W mag and a stainless aftermarket...

Smith Model 439 safety and lanyard loop

Just got "new" one - made in 1987. My old one had single safety - new has ambi. Wondering if I can convert back to single and where I might get parts. if it is possible to convert back. Also, old had lanyard loop - new does not, but I think they came with one. Bottom of frame /...

Update on "Eyes getting old (70)"

At range again today - used my older, lower power reading glasses - found them to be good compromise - Ruger Mark III Hunter at 25 feet (green pipe), Ruger 10-22 (stock sights) at 50 feet - paper targets (red bull) and Dirty Birds - could see sights and targets pretty well - not perfect, but 95%...

    Eyes getting old (70)

Have a newer stock Ruger 10-22 and want to get good at 50 feet offhand. Problem is with my reading glasses - can see rear sight well, the front bead is fuzzy, and I can't see the target. Thought about how to fix problem. One option is changing sights - found these...

    .40-60 WCF - What rifles ?

Do you know what old rifles were chambered for the .40-60 WCF cartridge or could actually fire it ? I know that the .40-60 cartridge was introduced in 1876 for the Winchester 1876 Centennial Model rifle and the Whitney-Kennedy lever action rifle was chambered for it. Were there any others...

    .45-60 vs. .40-60

Hope I have right forum. Does anyone have these cartridges ? In process of id'ing 5 old casings (broken, deformed. etc.). Consulted with local expert and we concluded 2 are .45-60, 2 are .45-70, and 1 is .44-40 (it is only one with head stamp - "WRA Co / 44 WCF"). .45-60's might be...

    2 new KAHR PM45s

Also posted on KAHR forum. Friend and I just got them and did initial break in. I fired 103 rounds of REM UMC 230, he fired 88 of same plus 5 of WIN PDX1. Recoil - He said it has a "snap" but I don't think he thought it was at all bad. I fired all mine 2-handed except last 3 one-handed...

    KAHR PM45 recoil springs

Also posted on KAHR forum: Friend and I just got our new PM4544s. As anticipated, tough to rack the slides due to recoil spring. Feels like the last 1/4 inch or so is toughest. I have two K9098s - replaced the factory 20# with Wolff 18#. Also have MK9 - replaced the factory 20.5# with...

    9mm - .357

My neighbor recently purchased used New Model Blackhawk (.357 / 9mm dual cylinder). Someone told him 9mm bullet would "wobble" thru and damage the (.357) barrel. I computed 9mm = 0.35433. Is there any validity to the "wobble" issue ? Thanks.

    Blackhawk transfer bar question

My neighbor recently purchased used New Model Blackhawk (.357 / 9mm dual cylinder). Transfer bar is not parallel to frame. Is this normal ? If not, is repair (straightening) possible, or is replacement necessary ? Would Ruger charge for repair ? Thanks.

    KAHR all steel .45 ACP

I surveyed on THR and KahrTalk "Should KAHR make the K45 or the MK45 ?" and sent results to Frank Harris. Here is Frank's reply: Thanks for taking the time to do this informal survey. It is appreciated and I think sometime in the future we will make a steel frame .45 ACP.
