ouch my S&W 44 mag hurts

When I shoot a Model 29-629 I would just as soon have the wood grips on it. I don't have a problem with my hand, it's my middle finger that gets punched on the trigger guard my the S&W's so I always wrap something on my middle knuckle if I ever shoot one. Get a Ruger Redhawk or SRH and it's...

    Why the 45 long colt

For those who say it equals a 44 mag For the record I'm a fan of the 45 colt, its the old cowboy gun mainstay and one of my favorite rounds. That said it may get the job done in the field just as good as a 44 mag but to say it equals the power of a 44 is stretching it a bit. A good friend of...

What's your best hit, and your worst miss?

Ricochet shot My best hit and worse miss was all the same shot. Had a doe only about 30 yards away and I was using my muzzle loader, her head and neck were behind a huge oak tree but had what should have been a clean heart shot by squeezing one between the oak and a little maple tree. I took...

    Buying Ammo at Walmart

They always ask here. They don't check ID, I wish I was still close enough to 21 they still needed to check my ID. I guess when they see an old geezer there is no need to check there age.

    Guns and Dogs

Start her with a toy cap pistol and then a little treat. They will soon associate the bang with something good. My dogs hear a gun shot and come a runnin.

Loading Gates on the Right... Why?

Yep, it also works the same for the DA's, swing the cylinder out and hold with left hand while cartridges are handled with the right. As with about everything, they were designed for right handed users.

    Guns and Dogs

Get a lab and you wont likely have any problem, this guy is only 8 months old and has already been dove and goose hunting. He cant retrieve a Canada yet but ran this cripple down and tackled it until I could get there to assist. Lab's arent likely to be gun shy but it never hurts to start...

    Leather work. First try.

Copy and pasted from another site. This info is courtesy of Chuck Borrows, one of the masters of the trade, especially on period stuff and old methods of doing leather work. How to "Harden" Leather The following method of a hardening leather is not my invention. The basic method has been in...

    Concealed versus open carry

I think it is plumb silly to allow concealed carry and not open. Kentucky has always allowed open carry even before concealed carry. It seems like there are less people that open carry probably because they are now allowed to carry concealed but I never understood the states that allow concealed...

Ruger mini 14 vs AR15 accuracy challenge. Calling all Ruger Mini14 shooters

I just traded my mini a while back because it wouldn't hit the broad side of a barn from the inside. My eyes arent good enough for that at 100 yards and open sights, if I can talk my brother into doing it on the next nice day I'll try to get more AR targets for the thread.

Question about old Winchester lever guns

It is because of the war. I had a war time gun that was actually pretty neat, wish I had kept it. It had a hammer like a pre-war gun but the tang did not have the stamping on the top and the serial # put it being made during the war. I heard they put together guns during and right after the war...

    Is Your Favorite Hobby Firearms?

Firearms and shooting is one of my favorite hobbies but it's not the one I do the most. I also spend a lot of time hunting in the fall and winter but over the years course I spend more time knife making or doing leathercraft. Firearms and shooting is an expensive hobby which is a big limiting...

    Why Not the 7mm?

It's in a short action, handy rifle and many claim more ridged short actions tend to be more accurate although that's not one of my reasons. I get the same velocity from 140 grain bullets with less powder so it's more efficient to shoot.

Damascus - is there a performance advantage ?

hso, very well put and nuff said, if a damascus was superior they would make that instead of formulating steels such as CPM M4 for industrial applications. Because of what it was designed for is the reason CPM M4 has been the winning steel in cutting competition knives for a while now. A...

Any 7mm SAUM or WSM shooters out there?

Browning A-bolt in 7mmWSM is a winning combo in the woods or big fields. 7 mag performance with the 140 grain bullets in a lightweight short action. Mine is handy in the woods and in the open fields I don't bat an eye at a 400 yard shot as long as I can get in position to do my part.

    Why Not the 7mm?

Probably the most accurate out of the box rifle I've ever seen is my A-Blot stalker in 7mmWSM. I wouldn't think it either since its a pencil barrel lightweight rifle. Great hunting round. Nearly duplicate 7 rem mag with the 140 and 150 grain bullets and with a handy short action rifle. In my...

    custom knife assembly

Not sure where your from but go to some of the gun and knife shows in your area and talk to some of the custom knifemakers. You may be surprised how much information they'll share. At a show just this weekend I had three different people (two guys and a lady learning to make knives) ask me for...

    Leather work. First try.

If punching or drilling those holes be very careful not to make them too big. It's best to punch the holes with an awl so the leather will close back up around the thread. If your going to use a drill press use a finish nail instead of a drill bit.

    Holster advice please.

I use only top USA vegetable tanned leather but still advise not to store your gun or knife in its holster or sheath. No sense in inviting trouble.
