    Polymer Revolvers, Trend or Gimmick?

I don't see the advantages so I would vote 'Gimmick'. I do not fault anyone who chooses one. But... 1-they're not significantly lighter than other pocket revolvers 2-they have metal components so they are no more resistant to rust They're cool and all but I don't get it. 13 oz .38...

    Hiking Gun

Of your choices, I'd suggest the M&P .40 Compact. You should probably worry more about two legged critters vs the four legged variety.

what are preban glock 22(.40) mags going for....

Early 2000s was before the AWB sunset, so I'd believe those figures for that time frame.

Safety's a good thing. But it sounds like someone making the rules is afraid of their own shadow.

So I have this shiny perfect Python

x2 There is no way to carry that without it getting some wear, however minute. You can either make it a safe queen or look at the wear as wrinkles on an old woman's face; reminders of adventures that have passed.

Is this OK or am I flirting with trouble...

I don't like it, but they might be overcautious. I'd err on the side of caution and only transfer a weapon to the actual person who is buying it.

    When did it all start.

Gritacular, I was wearing guns and taking training a long time before 9/11. About 20 years prior. Work on your analytical skills and/or your ESP and check back in later. ;)

New: Para SASS "Wild Bunch" 1911

Or just get a Springfield GI or Mil Spec that in fact looks like Pike and the boys would've carried it.

    When did it all start.

Mine was gradual from childhood. I decided a long time ago to never allow myself or my loved ones to be at the mercy of someone who has renounced their place in the civilized world.

What will fail first on a .40 Sig 226 stainless?

The various springs would go first, IMO. After 5000 rounds I'd do a detail strip and deepclean and replace ALL of the springs. BTW the 5k number is arbitrary, but as good a number as any.

    *Price Check* Colt Cobra

Not a bad price, especially if it's really blued and not that God awful parkerizing that COlt used for a while on some of their revolvers.

What spare parts should be kept for Sig 226?

I haven't seen one; I was able to muddle through mine with little problem. Caveat: I was the kid that took dad's drill apart and had it work when I reassembled it.

    The Gun Wiki is up...

The problem with THR and just about any other webforum is the 'keyboard' experts that in reality couldn't find their butt in the dark with two hands. Everything they know they read about in a magazine or online.........in a forum. ;-)

    Barrel for a Colt 1917

Not sure the threads match between Colt and S&W, but could be wrong. The barrels are out there; it'll take a lot of bush-shaking to find one, I'd guess.
