the 270 win is more than adequate for elk. anyone who says or writes to the contrary is just showing their own ignorance or prejudice. sure, there are better elk cartridges, but have no doubt, the 270 has and will continue to kill elk. know your rifle, know your limitations, and get your...
my local wmt (town of less than 9k) has several colt ar's, and has had 1 or 2 most days i checked, even during the shortage months. i live in the sticks though.
i've read (repeatedly) that the best selling scope in america is the 3-9x40, and has been for more that 3 decades. get a leupy vx2 and enjoy the years of hunting ahead.
i have used those "bikini" lens covers for many years. i remove them when i step out of camp and put them back on when i get back to camp. i want the lens covered/protected at all times except when i am actually hunting.
op - my son uses a buckmaster 3-9x40 scope on his "do everything" rifle, which is a rem m700 s/s in 7mmremmag. he has had no trouble killing deer, antelope, and elk.
were i you, i'd get a leupy 3-9x40 in either vx2 or 3. however, that buckmaster you already have will certainly work as well...
the op's main focus, based upon his stated usage, is accuracy. no question, the ar wins in the accuracy department. we're not talking home defense, killing zombies, or dipping the rifle in mud. if he's after accuracy, the ar is the clear winner.
i have kept the same ruger 10/22 in my farm truck (24/7) since 1996. it's never let me down. i'd go with the ruger were i you. i've owned one marlin 60 in the last 40 years. it did ok, but i never bought another.
this too will pass, as the house will not pass any assault weapons bans. too many dems and repubs up for re-election in 2016.
just remain patient. stocks will return to pre-sandy levels in less than a year.
i live on my farm and keep a ruger 10/22 in my main farm pickup 24/7. during hunting seasons i add the appropriate rifle or shotgun, but the 22 never leaves the truck and gets year-round use.
make no mistake, the .22 is a very deadly round. i've killed muskrats, beaver, nutria, yotes...
3" high at 100 yards for 223/270/30-06. been using this since the early 70's. works for me.
one thing about a ballistics calculator - they give one a good "idea" as to where the bullet will strike, but one should actually shoot the rifle at known distances to ensure that is where that...
i bought a nib g36 a few weeks ago. recoil hasn't bothered me, but i only shoot a couple full mags at a time. no problems with function/cycling. i carry mine in a blackhawk serpa. i am well satisfied.
no way would i trade that kimber for that ar. rest assured the ar panic will subside (already is beginning in some areas), and manufacturers are making ar's as fast as they can. just be patient. you'll be able to buy many different ar's in 6 months i believe.
about a week ago i was asking myself the same question - what would be a good ccw .45 acp. i bought a glock 36, and am well satisfied. i looked at the xds as well, but went with the glock instead. ymmv.
i too looked/handled an xds a few days ago, but bought a g36. i will admit the xds was a fine looking weapon, and a great performer judging by the op's post.
